Scouting for Life Blood Drive
|
Service is part of the lifeblood of Scouting.
Here's a chance to give back in more ways than one.
As you may know, the Cradle of Liberty Council has launched a new community service project for this spring and summer called "Scouting for Life." In partnership with J.P. Mascaro & Sons and the American Red Cross, we will be holding blood drives throughout the tri-county area during the last three weekends of August, a high-need month for blood donations.
We need your help to make this drive successful! The Scouts, Scouters and families in your unit can help in several ways:
- By promoting the drive to family, friends, colleagues, business associates, and the community-at-large and securing blood donor commitments.
- By giving blood (donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 with parental consent form).
- By volunteering at the drive (limited opportunities available).
Every two seconds, a patient in the U.S. relies on blood and platelet donors for a fresh start. Just one Scout in your unit securing a blood donor commitment has the potential to save up to three lives!
For more details about the drive, including information about locations, local contacts, and incentives, please visit www.colbsa.org/blooddrive. A Unit Leader Guide, donor commitment cards and promotional posters are available to download. You may also contact your local district blood drive chair or district professional to get the materials you need to help promote the drive and help save lives!
Blood Drive Patch Contest
Time is running out! The Cradle of Liberty Council has launched a patch contest for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers. The contest winner will receive a $50 gift card to the Scout Shop! Deadline for submissions is Friday, May 30, 2014. Please download the submission form for more details and get those entries in!

Liquid Gas Lantern Safety Recall
|
Coleman recalls Northstar lanterns due to fire hazard: An incorrect gas feed tube was installed on the lantern. When lit, the tube can release too much fuel, posing fire and burn hazards. This recall involves Northstar liquid fuel lanterns with model number 2000B750 and date codes 10 13 or 11 13. The model number is printed on the base of the lantern, under the lighting instructions. The date code is stamped on the underside of the lantern. A Coleman logo sticker is affixed to the front of the lantern base. The green lanterns measure about 13" tall by 7" wide by 7" deep. The firm has received two reports of lanterns catching fire when fuel unexpectedly leaked from the bottom of the unit. No injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lanterns and contact The Coleman Company, Inc. for a replacement lantern.

Online Merit Badge Counselor List
|
The Council Advancement Committee has been working for some time to make the list of registered Merit Badge Counselors available online to troop leadership so they can better support their Scouts in the Merit Badge Program.
The list of all registered Merit Badge Counselors has been posted under the advancement tab at www.colbsa.org.
In accordance with BSA policy, the list is password protected. Scoutmasters and unit advancement chairs can get the user ID and password from their district advancement chairs, merit badge deans, or district professionals. If any errors are discovered, please notify your district advancement chair so he or she can work with you to register or reregister any individuals who should be listed.
Scouts who wish to reach out to a merit badge counselor should contact their Scoutmaster or Scoutmaster's designee within their troop, as prescribed in the BSA Advancement Guidelines.
