Camp Card Orientation & Distribution
|
We are pleased to announce that Camp Card distribution is just around the corner. The cards and Scout sales kits are on their way and we are able to announce our two Camp Card Unit Orientation and Distribution locations on March 13, 2014. Thank you for your patience and the short notice. We did not want to have to reschedule due to delays in production or shipping, especially with this year's weather. We will have cards and sales kits at both locations. We will also take some time to review the details of the sale, Strive for 25 turn in, card reorders, blitz days, updated sale calendar and more. Click here for Camp Card orientation and distribution details and to confirm your unit's attendance.

The 2014 Friends of Scouting campaign is now underway. Friends of Scouting is a critical annual giving campaign that gives Scouters, parents, alumni, and community members the opportunity to financially support Scouting. Investments made through the campaign assist the Cradle of Liberty Council in offsetting program costs and providing quality service. The true cost of Scouting is much greater than what local dues and event or camping fees cover.
Yearly registration fees directly support the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America and help provide program development and research, literature, and local council support. The Cradle of Liberty Council uses contributions made through the annual Friends of Scouting campaign to:
- Maintain camp properties and a service center.
- Organize new Scouting units and support existing ones.
- Provide professional support and leader training.
- Distribute program resources and regular communications.
- Organize activities and events.
- Offset general liability insurance costs to chartered organizations.
- Criminal background checks for adult leaders.
Each unit is asked to schedule a presentation date for this campaign between January and April. If your unit hasn't scheduled a presentation yet, please firm-up a date as soon as possible so district volunteers to have enough time to plan for this critical campaign. Your unit may schedule a presentation by contacting your district Family FOS chair or your district professional. Thank you for your support!

Health and Safety Tip of the Month
|
Digital Privacy
A key ingredient for a safe and healthy Scouting experience is the respect for privacy. Advances in technology are enabling new forms of social interaction that extend beyond the appropriate use of cameras or recording devices. Although most campers and leaders use digital devices responsibly, educating them about the appropriate use of cell phones and cameras is a good safety and privacy measure. It is inappropriate to use any device capable of recording or transmitting visual images in shower houses, restrooms or other areas where privacy is expected by participants.
See the BSA Guide to Safe Scouting for more.

2014 Training Requirements
|
All leaders on 2014 Cradle of Liberty Council charters must be position-specific trained, along with having current Youth Protection Training. This includes all Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters, Cubmasters and assistant Cubmasters, den leaders and assistant den leaders, Venturing crew advisors and assistant advisors, Varsity coaches and assistant coaches, Sea Scouting mates and skippers, committee chairs, and committee members.
- All assistant Scoutmasters and assistant Venturing crew advisors must complete their basic training or they will not be registered in that position. Assistant Scoutmasters and assistant Venturing crew advisors age 21 and older can register and function as a member of the troop or crew committee if they choose to not complete their classroom-style leader training.
- All Cub Scout leader training and committee training for both troops and packs is available online at myscouting.org.
- Venturing committee training is expected to be available from BSA National in spring of 2014 and will be mandatory for crew committee members at that time.
By dedicating 30 minutes of your time to complete this training, we are helping to ensure a quality program for all of the youth we serve through Scouting.

my.Scouting Tools Makeover
|
my.Scouting Tools has a new look. The new design is faster and more dynamic, and now supports Internet Explorer 10 and 11. Additional enhancements in this release include:
- A revamped News section provides more space to post pertinent and relevant information about my.Scouting Tools, along with other Scouting news.
- Each Tool icon is in a drop-down list under the Home button to select rather than in a row of large icons after logging in.
- My Dashboard is now comprised of My Profile and My Training details. Address, contact information, phone numbers, etc., are in separate editable sections instead of one long section to accommodate and adjust to most mobile screens.
- New My Organization Dashboard tool located under the unit or district organization level contains My Calendar and My Announcements details.
The Training Manager, Member Manager, and Organization Manager still maintain existing functionality and look that will be updated in the coming weeks.
The following new features are planned in the coming months:
- Redesign of Organization Manager (assignment of functional roles and security, including Plus 3)
- Commissioner Tools (replaces UVTS)
- Advancement Manager
- Targeted communication
Log into my.Scouting to see the new changes.
