Cradle of Liberty Merit Badge College and Counselors
|
Only five slots remain for Cradle of Liberty's first Council Wide Merit Badge College on Saturdays February 22 and March 15, 2014 at the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades on RT 352 near the Granite Run Mall. A scout can earn up to four Merit Badges by completing pre requisites in advance of the first session, completing additional requirements between the two sessions, and of course by attending and participating in the two Saturday class sessions.Forty two badges are being offered (click on this link to see the flyer which has a link to registration) including seven Eagle Required Badges, many STEM badges, and other seldom offered badges. There is a limit of 280 scouts so remaining space is limited. Be flexible with your selections as some badges have already reached the limit of 20 scouts to a class. In response to your requests we have added second Game Design and Sustainability class and third Citizenship in the Nation and Emergency Preparedness class. Most badges have Pre Requirements, for example First Aid is a pre requisite for Emergency Preparedness, so check the pre requirement link before selecting classes. The cost is ten dollars per scout and you will need to bring a bag lunch.

Courage. Sacrifice. Selflessness. Patriotism.
Do those words describe an act of service performed by a Scout, Venturer or Scouter you know?
Chances are, they do. And you'll need to act quickly to recognize this person by nominating him or her to the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation's Citizen Honors awards. The nomination deadline is Jan. 10, 2014.
The same foundation that honors acts of wartime valor (with the Congressional Medal of Honor) seeks to also celebrate "unsung heroes" or citizens who've selflessly put the lives of others first through an act of heroism. And, as Scouts pledge to "help other people at all times," it's likely that you know of a Scout, Venturer or fellow Scouter deserving this great distinction.
Nominate this person today - the Jan. 10 deadline is approaching fast. Nominees must be age 18 or older, and this person's act of selflessness must have occurred in the last three years. Find more details regarding the nominating criteria here.

BSA Today Health and Safety Tip |
ENERGY DRINKS: ARE THEY SAFE?
A letter to the FDA from a group of medical experts expressed doubts that energy drinks are safe for youth. An article in the March 2011 issue of Pediatrics revealed that, in addition to heart risk, energy drinks have been linked to seizures, behavioral disorders, and obesity in young people. Until it is determined that energy drinks are safe, the latest BSA Health and Safety newsletter notes that experts recommend youth use caution when consuming them.
