Announcement - Our New Scout Executive
|
We are pleased to announce the selection of Michael Kaufman as Scout Executive of the Cradle of Liberty Council, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, effective September 1, 2013.
Mike began his career in 1988 as a District Executive for the Middle Tennessee Council, Nashville, Tennessee,where he successfully served as District Executive, District Director, and Field Director. He was promoted in 1996 to serve the Dan Beard Council in Cincinnati, Ohio, serving as the Director of Support Services, having the responsibility for leading the Finance and Support Service departments. Among Mike's achievements for the Dan Beard Council were the successful $14.5 million capital campaign, and the design/build component for the development of a long term Boy Scout resident camp.

Fall Recruitment
|
Hope this article finds everyone well and enjoying this wonderful summer. As August rolls around we at Cradle of Liberty look to the fall and our busy recruitment season.
Many of you already have been chomping at the bit and sent us when you plan to have your "Sign up Night" or Roundup or Back to school night or one of the 100000 different names we have for recruitment night. If you haven't please send your District Executive an email of when you plan to have yours.
If this is new to you, let us know and we can walk you thru this fun process. If you feel your "big enough" please let us know as well. If you feel you can't handle any more kids because you don't have enough parents (everyone?) let us know and we will work with you to get more parents involved. We are starting to schedule times to go into the schools and talk to the boys so the sooner you tell us when your recruitment night is the sooner we can lock up a "Boy Talk" in school.
We have some brand new flyers, posters, signs, bookmarks and giveaways for new Scouts so sign up for a recruitment event while these great supplies last!!!!

Internet Advancement Training Webinar

Internet Advancement Training Webinar is now available for Boy Scout units!
Cradle of Liberty Council is now running Internet Advancement training webinars using Google+ / Hang out.
With all the troops are coming back from summer camp with loads of merit badges and rank advancement to award to their scouts, why not take advantage of this training from the comfort of your home!?!?
Boy Scout leaders interested in internet advancement, please email District Advancement Chair Shaun Carpenter at secarps@gmail.com to RSVP your attendance prior to the event. There is a limit of 8 attendees per session, so please select a second date should the first one be filled.

2013 was another successful year for Cub Adventures at Musser!
The Cub Scouts that came had a magical time earning advancement, learning new scout skills and having fun in the outdoors. They got to participate in the entertaining campfires, polar bear swims, tye-dyeing, BB and Archery Shooting, boating, nature, sports, cooking and so much more! If you couldn't join us this summer, you won't want to miss it next summer!
Resica Falls has Another GREAT Summer Camp in 2013!
Over 3,100 Boy Scouts had a week of adventure and learning at Resica Falls this summer! The Scouts that attended had the opportunity to pick from over 60 merit badges to earn, including Welding, Cinematography, Kayaking, Emergency Prep, Cooking and MANY More! The new features at the lake, including the AquaPark were camper favorites! Don't miss-out on your chance to attend Resica in 2014!!
Cub Scout Fall Festivals 2013
Are your Cubs Excited for more adventure this fall? Do they want to shoot BB Guns, Archery, cooking, Slingshots and other cool activities? Come out for a great day celebrating Scouting in the great outdoors. Will you join in the fun this fall? The dates are: October 19th, 20th, 26th, or 27th.
Event Location:
Camp Hart, Musser Scout Reservation 1125 Camp Road, Pennsburg PA 18073
Each day is limited to 250 Scouts participating. Scouts must attend as part of a group or with their parent and be accompanied by adults throughout the event. Scout fee is $20 and adults/siblings pay $5. Click here to register for this event.

This registration is for the DAY of one of the two 2013 Fall Festival weekends; October 18-20 & 25-27. If your unit would like to camp overnight the weekends of the Fall Festival events, reserve a site at Camp Delmont or Garrison through the Cradle of Liberty Camping Department. Remember, ground sites and cabins are limited. Availability of sites and reservations can be made at www.colbsa.org/rentals

COPE/Shooting Sports Days - Open to Boy Scouts and Venturers!
If you enjoy COPE and Shooting Sports, or hangin' out with fun people, this is an event you won't want to miss!! Join us at Musser for a fun day of High Adventure and Shooting Sports on November 16 OR 17. In addition to Shooting sports, we will be providing lunch, cooking demonstrations, and other exciting opportunities! Stay posted for the online registration!

2013 NYLT Fall SPOTS still OPEN

NYLT is an exciting, action packed program designed to provide youth members of the Boy scouts of America with Leadership skills and experience they can use in their home Units and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. NEW this year: opened to Venturing, male and female.
Through activities, presentations, challenging discussions, and audio-visual support, you will be engaged in a unified approach to leadership that will give you the skills and confidence to lead well.
Through a wide range of activities, games, and adventures, participants will work and play together as they put into action the best that Scouting has to offer.

Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills
Don't Forget - All Assistant Scoutmasters need to be fully trained by December 31, 2013. To be considered fully-trained, a leader must have Youth Protection Training, Position Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS). If you need to take the IOLS training, we have several opportunities coming up over the next several months. Click HERE For a list of upcoming Training Opportunities. Please Note: We will have an IOLS Opportunity in Philadelphia in Two Location on November 9 and 10. This will be a two-day course without an overnighter, and we hope many Leaders will take advantage of these opportunities.

2013 Wood Badge Training
|

Thanks to all the Scouters who offered help to our Scouter Participant, Brian Woznicki, who will need help and support to attend and complete this year's Wood Badge Course, September 7, 8, 9 and October 12, 13, & 14 at Musser Scout Reservation.
The Wood Badge Staff is still recruiting as we still do not have sufficient paid participants to hold the course. We are in need of 6 to 8 additional sign ups. If you are a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity, or Venturing Leader and have not completed Wood Badge Training please consider participating. All of us want to provide the finest program for the Youth in our units. To accomplish this BSA recognizes that Leadership Training is key. Wood badge is the premier training course, the course is designed to fulfill the needs of course participants. Participants learn techniques that make them better leaders, and how to lead groups to achieve objectives.
For Boy Scout, Varsity and Venturing leaders your Wood Badge Training will compliment the NYLT training provided to your youth, Wood Badge will teach you what your youth have learned.
Remember, it is about the youth.
Every Scout deserves a trained leader.
We sincerely hope we get the needed signups by the end of July in order for the course to proceed.

Be Lightning Safe
Lightning Safety week may be June 23-29 th but good safety practices are essential all year round. To find out more about lightning safety, visit the National Weather Service's website, at http://www.lightningsafety.noaa.gov/
. Also be sure you and your fellow Scouters have completed BSA's hazardous weather training! Log into MyScouting.org to take this important, free training. Every trip or outing with your unit requires at least one adult present who has completed hazardous weather training within the preceding two years.

Lowes Eagle Scout Project

During 2012 more than 3,000 Scouts received $100 grants for their Eagle Scout service projects through the generosity of the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. The Boy Scouts of America is pleased to announce that the foundation has offered to continue its support with a similar number of grants beginning in July 2013.

Starting August 15th and continuing through October 27th if you purchase a full uniform to include shirt, pants, belt, cap, neckerchief, slide, and socks, you will get 10% off the entire uniform price.
