Scout Shop Look for HELP

The Valley Forge and the Philadelphia Scout Shops are looking to add new people to their staff who are able to work about 15 to 20 hours a week between the hours of 8:30am and 7:00pm Monday through Friday and Saturdays between 9:00am and 4:00pm.  More hours can be had when the manager or full time associates are on vacation or off for other reasons.

All you have to do is stop in the store to see the manager for details and an application or send an email to valleyforgescoutshop@scouting.org or philadelphiascoutshop@scouting.org to request the application.  Call the Valley Forge Scout Shop at 610-989-9626 or the Philadelphia Scout Shop at 215-564-0785 and ask for the manager if you have questions.  We need new staff to start right away.

This is an opportunity to earn some extra funds, to have fun working with people who have the same interest that you have, and to meet new people, learn new things, and enjoy your time.

Scout Shop News

May Has Arrived, Big Events are Here!

To best serve your needs, to provide you with a lot of information and opportunities, the Valley Forge and the Philadelphia Scout Shops are busy getting ready for many events. Some of these events include information. Some include free gift cards with a purchase. Some include fun events and prizes. Some include sales and clearance events.

Mother's Day is coming faster than you think and we know there are a lot of great mothers out there, volunteering, helping, cooking, cleaning, working, mowing grass, and all the other things mothers do. The Scout Shops will have a special offer from April 29th through May 12th to let your mother know how important and loved she is. During this time, when you purchase a Mother's Day card at the Scout Shops you will receive a free patch. We all like free things and mothers love cards from their children, husbands, friends, and anyone who is important in their lives.   Don't miss out, the offer will be available from April 29th through May 12th.

May 11th will be an important date. That is the date the Scout Shops will both be holding the Get Ready For Camp event. When visiting either the Valley Forge or Philadelphia Scout Shops you will be able to learn how to choose a backpack, how to size one, and how to pack a backpack. There will be packing lists available for summer camp and there will be events going on so you can see how some things are done. The events will be held in the shops or close by and will be available for you to enjoy during regular hours at both shops.

Continental District's 79th Annual Dinner

East Greenville Boy Scout Troop 108's Chuck Tomlin and Palm Troop # 79's Joe Brook were presented the James E. West Fellowship Award at Continental District's 79th Annual Recognition Dinner held Saturday evening April 27, 2013.  There can be no finer honor paid to a Scouter than to be named a

James E. West Fellow, indicating that the nominee is in the same spirit and dedication to Scouting as was James E. West, who was appointed to the position of Chief Scout Executive in 1910.  Mr. West worked with the founding leadership of Scouting in America to form the National Council, B.S.A. on January 2, 1911.  His leadership and foresight exemplified Ralph Waldo Emerson's observation that "....an institution is the lengthened shadow of one man."  Those who are recognized by the James E. West Fellowship award will cast their own "lengthened shadow" as they help continue the Scou ting legacy.

Chuck has been part of the Scouting movement which dates back to his years as a Scout when he received his Eagle back in 1966. He rekindled his love for Scouting when his boys began their Scouting careers starting in 1989. There have been a total of 13 Tomlin Eagle Scouts related to Chuck including his father and 3 sons. Chris, the eldest, is now the Assistant Council Executive of the Greater Philadelphia Council of the Boy Scouts (The Cradle of Liberty Council) and his second Son, Matt, is currently the Scoutmaster of the East Greenville Boy Scout Troop #108 following his father's legacy who was Scoutmaster of 108 from 2001-2004. His third son, Peter, is a Boswains Mate in the United States Coast Guard stationed in Ocean City Maryland. Kudos to Chuck for this prestigious achievement.

Joe has been a Scouter since he was asked to be a leader of a troop at the air base when he was in the Air Force.  Under past Troop 79 SM George Windish, Joe was his key ASM. Joe played the part of SM many times for George when his business kept him from being at meetings or campouts or summer camp. Joe has also been involved with Unami Lodge, where he earned his Vigil in 2000, received the Dave Fortunato award in 1999 and the highest award a Lodge can give one of its members, the Founders' Award in 2002.

Chuck and Joe have been Scouting brothers for decades.
