Rewriting our New Year's Resolution
Kalpana (Rose) Kumar, M.D.
| |
This has been a special holiday season with a long awaited Winter Solstice that was predicted centuries ago by the Mayan's. The 2012 Winter Solstice is a time when our paradigm of dualistic thinking is supposed to transform into one of unified thinking. We need to look for common ground and to integrate the qualities of the Feminine Principle such as collaboration, connection and healing into our culture. Currently, our culture is struggling to reclaim its soul. In the past year, we have experienced multiple shootings and most recently a massacre of innocent young children and their teachers. We are experiencing shocks of greater and greater intensity that should wake us up with a call to transform. These shocks have brought us together in empathy for the victims, however, due to the illness of desensitization in our society, a few weeks after each crisis, we become complacent and self-absorbed again.

Turning Toward What You Love Deeply

"Sometimes you hear a voice through the door calling you...This turning toward what you deeply love saves you." ~ Rumi
What is it that you deeply love? Do you take time to ask the questions? Do you take time to listen to the answers?
In this life we are given so many options for ways to spend our time. Each day presents us with opportunities to go deeper into this life experience. We can sense our breath, be present in our physical bodies, using our senses to fully experience life. Through mindfulness practice, we can fully taste our food, see the beauty of a winter day, or feel the warmth of a hug. We can use our yoga practice as a moving meditation or take some time in seated meditation to quiet our minds to the many outside influences and allow us to find our own Truth.
When the mind is calm and quiet, we are then able to listen and sense what it is that we are drawn to. We can seek experiences, adventures or simply experience the beautiful life we are already living with full awareness and appreciation.
May 2013 be a year of Awakening for you.
You are invited to join our beginner/intermediate yoga classes at the Ommani Center

Food and Supplements for Weight Loss

Traditional Chinese medicine has much to say about diet. Proper diet is an important component of health. All foods are categorized into temperature, from hot to cold and flavour, pungent, spicy, sweet, sour and salty. Different temperatures and flavours of food influence the body in specific ways. One should try to include all flavours and a balance of temperatures in every meal. If too much of one type of food is consumed it can create an imbalance within the body.
