Springtime

Dear friends,  I hope that springtime finds you well.

I am sending along another good article on getting a good night's sleep.

For those of us who are concerned about aging well, there is an interesting article from Dr. David Perlmutter, a neurologist who wrote The Better Brain Book,
as well as numerous others. Here he talks about the inflammatory effects of sugar, carbohydrates and gluten on our brains.

And finally, some very good information about the best ways to use natural hormone replacement. For instance, compared to transdermal estrogens, oral estrogens increase the risk of strokes and blood clots.

I enjoy hearing from you!

Warmly, Molly

GETTING A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP

Dr. David Perlmutter, Associate Professor at the University of Miami School of Medicine, advocates that lifestyle modifications, starting with a high-fat, nearly carbohydrate-free diet, can prevent or greatly lower dementia risk and progression -- and he's armed with plenty of data to back up the claim.

Estrogen Pill vs. Estrogen Cream or Patch - Which Works Best?

The Delivery System Makes All the Difference When it Comes to Hormones.

from the Virginia Hopkins Lab

One of the issues up on the radar screen in natural hormone replacement therapy is whether taking estrogen in the oral (pill form) or transdermal (skin cream or patches) works best. (It's already very clear that progesterone cream works better than progesterone pills.) A few studies have been published showing that oral estrogen increases levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), a marker of inflammation that is associated with heart disease.
