Manager's Notes

     Summer is  just around the corner, I am extremely excited about the programs and events staff have planned for this summer throughout the City of Calabasas.  Plan out your families activites by checking out this newsletter; our Spring/Summer Brochure , flyers at the Front Desk and the City of Calabasas web-site.

     To help the CTSC get through the summer and assisting us in all of our food and catering needs, we have recently added Atmosphere Events & Catering. The initial feedback for Atmosphere has been fantastic and Dana and Nicolas Rolland have proven to be a delight to work with. Please plan on saying hello when you see them around the Center and check out their many menu options.

      Also, new to us will be Net Results Pro Shop scheduled to open in May. With their second location at the Tennis & Swim Center; racquet, shoes, apparel and stringing options will be available to you without even having to leave the Center.

      These are just a few of the many things planned for you this summer. I wish you and your family a wonderful summer season and look forward to seeing you around the Center!

 IT'S A GIRL!!!!!OMG 4/2013

As many of you already know, Andrea has left her position with us in the back office to have a baby.  Olivia Michele was born on March 29th weighing in at 6lbs. 12oz. 

Congratulations to both Andrea and Jason Gaona on their new bundle of joy.  After her maternity leave, Andrea will return to do private training and teach some fitness classes only.

Since Andrea has left us, I would like to introduce Terri Secondino, as our new office assistant.  Terri will still be working the front desk from time, to time, but will be assisting me in the back office.  Please welcome Terri to her new position. I feel very lucky to have her step up into this position and look forward to working with her.

SPRING TIKI HOURS

 Mondays & Wednesdays  3:30pm-6:30pm

Starting Monday May 13th the Tiki will be open

 Monday through Thursday from 3:30pm-6:30pm.

The Tiki will be opened on the following Saturday mornings from

 9:30am-1pm on May 4th , May 11th , June 8.

The Tiki will be closed on May 25th and 27th.

*Summer Tiki hours will start Monday June 17th

THE CITY OF CALABASAS IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR BOTH SWIM INSTRUCTORS AND LIFEGUARDS.

 Applicants MUST BE: 16yrs+, aquatic experienced, dependable, responsible, great customer service skills, outgoing, enjoys working outdoors and as a team. Part time positions available, flexible scheduling, 20-25 hours per week, starting hourly rate for lifeguards is $9.08-10.03 and swim instructors $9.84-10.86.

Visit the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center to complete a city application today. Aquatic positions for both spring and summer seasons will be limited. (Due to the overwhelming amount of applications, we apologize in advance, not all applicants will receive an interview.)

Monday, May 13    9am-2pm

Spend the morning with Mary Pat   Faley and our Top Seed Academy, Tennis Professional Staff.  Mary Pat Faley is a teaching professional in Calabasas, a renowned author on tennis and has been featured on the Tennis Channel.

Our Top Seed professionals will run you through 2 1/2 hours of drills, doubles strategy, footwork and games. After the drill you will participate in a 1 1/2   hours of round robin play followed by a Babolat racquet demonstration.

 $70/ person for members, $80/person for non-members

 Better  Body Line-Up, Roller Release & Tai Chi

  Monday May 13th        10am-2pm

Better Body Line Up will offer an interactive posture class to aid in better balance and injury prevention. Then lead into learning wonderful myofascial roller release techniques that will allow you to massage, loosen up and stretch your muscles. Finish with a soft relaxing Tai Chi experience.

After your Better Body Line Up session....stay on and enjoy some Mother's Day Boutique shopping, lunch from our new Atmosphere Café, raffle, fashion show, and of course socializing with your friends!!!

Extended Camp Care

Extend your time & extend the fun!

 Bring your child to XCC anytime between 7:30am-11:00am and/or 4:00pm-5:30pm. XCC will emphasis on interactive games and play and include activities that campers will play with other campers and the staff.  Our XCC staff will walk your child to Top Seed Tennis Camp, will help them order lunch with the café & keep them entertained till you pick them up.  XCC helps active & busy parents. 2013 represents the 18th annual Top Seed Summer Camp at the Calabasas Tennis and Swim Center, and this year we have added to the fun by assigning a different and entertaining "theme" during each week of camp. Whether it is "Red, White, and Blue" week, or "End-of-Summer Tennis Party" week, our themes are sure to keep the kids engaged and having a great time! Look for details online at www.calabasastsc.com

Atmosphere Events and Catering is working diligently to finalize the new, healthy menu and getting ready for a busy, busy summer.  Nicolas and Dana had a great time meeting some of the members at the Meet & Greet earlier this month and are looking forward to meeting more soon!  The Café will be open for the summer starting June 10th!  They will also be doing a box lunch program for the tennis camp kids with fresh, healthy options for only $6.50 a day.  If you see Nic or Dana around the Center, please stop them and say hi!

Friday Family Fun Nights

 The Tennis & Swim Center is launching a new program this summer

 " Friday Family Fun Nights" ! Every Friday starting June 14 

 Pick up the family after work and head to the Center. On the tennis patio, Atmosphere Café will be open for dinner, snacks & desserts till 8pm. There will be entertaining Kids classes to enrich the kids while you play tennis, swim or just relax with some music or watch the game on TV on the tennis patio.

Fridays are going to be fun at the center.

Kid classes (ages 5-12yrs) are 6pm-8:30pm each class will cost  $25.00 by Peak Adventures     Material fee $20.00. 

Top Seed Tennis Academy

 This summer Top Seed is very excited to bring you a Top Seed Logonew tennis programs, adult drills, socials, and an enhanced summer camp! 

In addition to the number of new programs we have put in place for summer is the continuation of the free adult drill Saturday mornings from 8:15-9:00 a.m., immediately followed by Doubles Challenge courts on Stadium and Court 1. The Saturday drill is now appropriate for all levels of play. Stadium court is divided with the upper level court serving USTA members, 5.0, 4.5, and strong 4.0 players. Court 1 will be reserved for players with a USTA ranking of lower 4.0, 3.5, and below. Come out for free, get some expert training from the Top Seed tennis staff, and mingle with your fellow tennis members!

Friday Family Fun Nights    Marine Biology Night

June 14  6pm -8:30pm

5yrs to 12yrs
 
Come in and dissect your own squid, see a 6 foot octopus, see what is inside a clam shell and make snow for the arctic!! These are just a few of the cool things we will explore in Marine Biology Night. WeOctopuss will begin with the "perfect" predator - sharks! Their ability to hunt has earned them a top seat on the marine food chain.  Why are they so good at what they do? Discover how many senses a shark has and how they use them to catch their prey. Perform experiments to see how your own senses match up to sharks! We will hold a real shark and learn how its anatomy assists in their hunting ability. We will analyze why surfers are mistaken for seals and have a surfboard design competition. Of course we will see, hold and touch several marine animals during our marine exploration. Dive in to learn more!.

Another new program starting in June is the Friday night tennis socials. This includes round robin doubles, hitting with Top Seed coaches, and fun for everyone. Please reference the social calendar for further details.

Moving on to the adult drill classes; we have upgraded our already strong schedule by adding more morning, night, and weekend classes for different levels of play.

Fossil Finders   June 25-27
Roll up your sleeves as we dig in to archeology. Restore a ruined mummy and discover the fascinating traditions and myths behind the ancient art of mummification, create a time capsule that includes information about current events and interests, reconstruct artifacts and dinosaur bones and create your own hieroglyphics code based on the style of the Egyptian language
Science Camp July 9-11

Kids love to watch things fizz, foam and bubble. Kids will perform experiments to help them understand the science between acids and bases, mixtures, reactions and other chemistry related concepts. Make rubber balls, lava bottles, the leak proof bag, eating nails for breakfast and dissect a diaper - how does it work?

Secret Agents   July 16-18

A kind but demanding millionaire is finding threatening notes in his breakfast cereal box - and all of the employees are suspected. But just when they start to get closer to the truth, an outrageous event sends them all to the witness stand! Solve the crime while playing a part! Learn the skills of real undercover agents, surveillance techniques, cryptology and information exchange, gadgets and contraptions , cool spy crafts and more!   

Marine Biology July 23-25
Students will get to dissect their own squid, touch an 8 foot octopus, hold a starfish, see what is inside a clam shell and feel what it's like to stick their hand in a jellyfish!!  These are just a few of the cool things we will explore in Marine Biology Camp.

 

Harry Potter July 30-Aug 1
Join us as we hop the train to Hogwarts. There will be "potions and herbology" lessons along with transfiguration, and care of magical creatures' courses. We will create fabulous art while playing games such as Quidditch and eating chocolate "frog" snacks..

 

Star Wars Jedi Training Aug 6-8
Feel the Force flow within you as your Jedi training begins. Hone your lightsaber skills as you and other Padawans learn techniques and moves from a Jedi Master. Camp includes Star Wars Trivia Games, Crafts, Star Wars Legos and a show for the parents on the last day!

The 36th Annual Lakeside Fun Run

Watch for registration forms coming in June! Fun for the whole family.  Running races, walking races, awards, music, T-shirts, pet show, pancake breakfast....Does it get any better than this?

  A 4 mile, 2 mile, ½ mile, ¼ mile races around the lake!

Science Disgusting Science Night

Make fake blisters, cuts and wounds, blood, eyeballs, brains and more. Simulate tooth decay, test for saliva digestion and make an ear wax detector. Disgusting? No doubt! Educational? Absolutely! After all, did you know that blisters are the body's way of protecting your skin, or that mucus helps keep germs out? Learn the science behind sticky and icky bodily functions while doing some truly nasty experiments.

It's talent show night at Camp Ana-waka-weeeble-wobble-rama-lama-ding-dong, the coolest camp on Earth. But when the talent show judge is poisoned with a cup of juice, it becomes clear that someone doesn't want the show to go on! Solve the mystery in this interactive fun night! Participants will dress up and act out their part - even if they did it! Will you be the Camp Cook, Arts & Crafts Counselor, Camp Storyteller or maybe the Drama Counselor? Adult-Junior Tournament

Play doubles with your child in a fun format. Competition goes from our youngest beginners and their parents all the way up to the Open division with 4.0 - 5.0 adults paired with top ranked juniors. It's a fun Saturday with your child, lunch included

Old Fashion Family Camp Out

Juan Bautista De Anza Park

The 2nd Annual Family Camp Out is Back!! And even better!!! Join the Calabasas staff at De Anza Park and pitch your tent, play games, watch a Movie under the stars, eat s'mores, sing some campfire songs, fall to sleep to sound of nature, wake up to the smell of pancakes and get energized with a nature hike.  

Camp Out sold out last year so, sign up early.
