PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEA
Hello Evergreen Families -

We hope this first edition of the Eagle Express finds you well and enjoying the beautiful summer sunshine. We've had a busy summer at Evergreen.  We've taken time for rest and relaxation and we've also been busy getting school ready for the upcoming year. We've hired new staff and everyone is excited to see you. We've also made improvements to the building and added two new portables as well as added lockers to support our growing population. In addition to rest and relaxation, many teachers have continued their learning by taking classes, attending conferences and workshops, working on curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques as well as other learning opportunities. We're excited to share our learning with you and we're excited for your students to share their summer learning with us.

We hope you enjoy these next few weeks and we will see you soon.

Wishing you all our best for a relaxing few weeks ahead,

Robert Johnson

Principal

Evergreen Middle School PTSA is back to work to get you the information you need to start the year on track! Please join, donate, and volunteer to support us!  We are working with our new board and chairs to build a great team to support all we do. Enjoy the rest of the summer!
LOOKING FOR A WAY TO GET INVOLVED?
HOW ABOUT CHAIRING A PTSA COMMITTEE?

Attention all parents who are looking for a way to get involved and make a difference... The EMS PTSA has numerous openings for Committee Chair positions for the 2016-17 school year. All these openings do NOT require you to attend monthly PTSA Board Meetings (although you are always welcome to attend). And most of these positions allow you to work at home at your convenience.

Committees:
PTA Reflections Program - WITHOUT A CHAIR THIS PROGRAM WILL NOT BE OFFERED TO EMS STUDENTS!  We need someone to attend the September Reflections Orientation Meeting where you'll learn what is required and what resources are available. Some of this chair's responsibilities will be to establish a timeline, promote the program, communicate with school/students/parents, collect and submit applications and entries, arrange for judging, and keep records. Please contact Kelley Kwoka ([email protected]) if you are interested in the being the Reflections Chair.

ASB Fundraiser -- help ASB teacher, Trish Miller, organize the "Fun Run"
Health Room -- organize volunteers to help students in the Health Room as their schedule permits
Office Copy Room Volunteers -- help copy items for EMS staff periodically
Social Events Chair -- 3 dances/year; organize volunteers to help with passing out wristbands, concessions, and chaperoning
Vision/Hearing Screening -- organize volunteers to help 7th graders with vision and hearing tests on one day in the fall (TBD).
If you are interested in helping with these committees, please contact Cherene Dodge ([email protected]) or Patricia Holcomb ([email protected]).

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP WITH 1ST SEMESTER SCHEDULE HANDOUT

Please sign up to hand out schedules to our eager students on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 6th, from 9:45-10:45am.  The more help we get the quicker our kids will be able to make it to their very first class of the school year.

**PLEASE NOTE -- you must have a current background check on file with LWSD in order to volunteer**  Click here for more about the LWSD Volunteer process.
