PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEA
Hello Evergreen Families -

We hope you had a great Memorial Day Weekend enjoying time with family and friends.  It is hard to fathom that May and nearly half the calendar year are already over and the school year is nearly complete as well.  The 2015-2016 school year has been filled with many wonderful opportunities to showcase students' talents in the classroom, in performances, on the stage, and on the athletic fields.  Our students have truly demonstrated skill, excellence, and growth in all facets of their education and we are honored to see them excel in so many ways.  Recently, we completed the Smarter Balanced Assessment and students painstakingly and diligently poured over answers and tried their best.  We are excited to see their efforts when the results come back.  Students also worked hard in the classroom on assessments, projects, assignments, and other formative measures.  Students have shown tremendous growth and we can definitely say they are prepared for the next step in their academic journey; they are certainly Future Ready.

Our focus all year has been to support students academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally and we have seen tremendous growth in all Four As: Academics, the Arts, Activities, and Athletics.  Most recently our Environmental Club took four representatives to the 1st Annual Sustainability Summit hosted on the Microsoft Campus and showcased all of the wonderful things we are doing at Evergreen to reduce, reuse, and recycle as well as find out what other schools are doing to help the environment.  Our Varsity Track Athletes also performed their best last Thursday night at the LWSD District Track Championships and many records were broken and personal bests achieved.  Great job to our students outside of the classroom.

In addition to our promotion of Activities and Athletics, we also want to showcase and highlight Academics and the Arts.  This Tuesday evening is a Night of the Arts with our Choir and Orchestra performing as well as an Art Show from our World Art students.  The Art Show is from 6:30pm-7:00pm in the hallways outside the Fieldhouse and the Choir and Orchestra performances will be inside starting at 7:00pm.  We encourage all families, whether you have a student performing or not, to enjoy this cultural opportunity and showcase of Evergreen's talent.

There are so many things we can highlight on a daily and weekly basis.  Our students are the best and we are grateful to our outstanding teaching staff for preparing them so well.  We are also grateful for parents like you who partner with us in your student's education.  Evergreen students are successful in so many ways and we are grateful we have the opportunity to walk alongside you in their academic journey.

Please continue to let us know how we can best support your student academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally in these final few weeks.

Thanks and take care and have a great week ahead.

Wishing you all our best,

Robert Johnson

Principal

SCHOOL NEWSC
ATTENTION ALL 8TH GRADE PARENTS:

We are looking for baby and current photos of this year's 8th grade students to be included in a slide show at the 8th Grade Celebration.  Parents may submit one or two photos.  The two photos should consist of one baby photo (usually between the ages of 12 months and 5years old), and one more recent photo of your child that showcases some sort of talent or activity they enjoy.  Photos should be in electronic form and emailed to EMSASB@lwsd.org. If 2 photos are submitted, they will be shown side by side (split screen).  If you can place the photos side by side in one document before sending, please do so. If not, please rename each photo with your child's full name and number them 1 & 2.

The deadline for submission of any photos is Tuesday, May 31st. This deadline is firm because there are 301 eighth grade students who each submit up to 2 photos.  We need to have time to put all the photos into the slideshow.

If everyone waits until May 31st to submit, we will have 600 photos to manipulate in a week.  We really need parents to submit their photos NOWWe greatly appreciate you taking this into consideration and getting pictures submitted early if possible, but at the very least, by May 31st.  Any photos received after May 31st will NOT be entered into the slide show.

Thank you!
