PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
|
|
|

Hello Evergreen Families -
We successfully navigated the first week of SBA Testing and our students demonstrated their knowledge and skills as they completed the tests. Even though Teacher Appreciation Week was in early May, we can always say thank you to our teachers for going above and beyond on a daily basis and preparing students for success. Thank you Teachers for preparing our students for success on the SBA as well as all of the standards and requirements needed to be a successful student. While the test may have felt hard, that's OK because it meant students were successfully answering the questions and the test was trying to fully determine how much they know. We do not have any SBA testing this week and all days will have a normal schedule. We will revisit the SBA on Tuesday, May 24 (Math CAT) and Thursday, May 26 (Math Performance Task).
Student behaviors and expectations
We continue to support students in their academic, social, and emotional growth. We also continue to remind them about behavioral expectations and finishing the year well. We continue to use discipline as a teachable moment and remind students about making good choices. We appreciate your partnership as we support students in all facets of their education. With warmer weather and sunshine early this year, we are providing frequent reminders about dress code, especially shorts that extend past finger tip length. As the father of three tall teenage daughters, I fully understand and can appreciate finding shorts that extend past their finger tips. I frequently remind my daughters that there are clothes for different settings and occasions; shorts appropriate for the beach are not necessarily appropriate for school.
Important Dates
We are nearing the end of the school year and there are some important upcoming events. Students will take final assessments in June and teachers are busily preparing them for success. Teachers will keep their Haiku pages up to date with assignments, assessments, and important dates. Please check Haiku or email teachers for any individual questions. Students will also turn in their laptop on Monday, June 6. If your student's computer has any difficulty, please see Kevin Olson before the turn in date so repairs can be made in time for final assessments. We will also distribute Yearbooks on Tuesday, June 14 and have our final assembly on Wednesday, June 15.
Final Thoughts
We've had an outstanding year and we look forward to these final weeks as we observe and celebrate growth in your student's education. We've appreciated your support all year and we look forward to partnering with you over the final month of the year. Please let us know if there are additional ways we can support your student.
Thanks and take care and have a great week.

THE DEADLINE FOR 8TH GRADE FUN DAY IS COMING SOON! *new*
8th Grade parents, please note that all paperwork and fees for the 8th Grade Fun Day are due to Ms. Nilsen (ASB Secretary) at the cashier window, by lunchtime on Thursday, May 19th.
All 8th graders who wish to attend Fun Day (on June 8th) need to turn in the following 3 things by May 19th:
1. Permission Slip
2. T-shirt order form
3. $30 fee (cash, or check made out to Evergreen Middle School)
*All three items must be turned in at the same time to Ms. Nilsen.
The cashier window is open before school every day from 7:15am-7:55am and during all three lunches. The cashier window closes at 12:15pm, so NO payments may be made after school.
If your 8th grade student wants to go to Fun Day on June 8th, they must have the 3 things listed above turned in by lunchtime on Thursday, May 19th!
Don't miss out! Get your paperwork in to Ms. Nilsen TODAY!

ATTENTION ALL 8TH GRADE PARENTS: *new*

We are looking for baby and current photos of this year's 8th grade students to be included in a slide show at the 8th Grade Celebration. Parents may submit one or two photos. The two photos should consist of one baby photo (usually between the ages of 12 months and 5years old), and one more recent photo of your child that showcases some sort of talent or activity they enjoy. Photos should be in electronic form and emailed to EMSASB@lwsd.org. If 2 photos are submitted, they will be shown side by side (split screen). If you can place the photos side by side in one document before sending, please do so. If not, please rename each photo with your child's full name and number them 1 & 2.
The deadline for submission of any photos is Tuesday, May 31st. This deadline is firm because there are 301 eighth grade students who each submit up to 2 photos. We need to have time to put all the photos into the slideshow.
If everyone waits until May 31st to submit, we will have 600 photos to manipulate in a week. We really need parents to submit their photos NOW. We greatly appreciate you taking this into consideration and getting pictures submitted early if possible, but at the very least, by May 31st. Any photos received after May 31st will NOT be entered into the slide show.
Thank you!
