ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE

Hello Evergreen Families -

We have officially started spring and are starting to enjoy beautiful spring weather. As we move into 4th quarter, we begin the planning process for our SBA (Smarter Balanced Assessment) state testing. Students in grades 3-8 are assessed in English Language Arts (ELA) and math. Students in grades 5 and 8 are also assessed in science using the Measurement of Student Progress (MSP). Results from the assessments provide meaningful feedback and data that teachers and other educators can use to help students succeed. In addition, the results provide data to help evaluate school-level and district-wide instructional strategies, initiatives and other programs.
Students in LWSD will begin testing at the end of March. Each school has a different testing schedule: students at Evergreen will be tested on the following dates:
May 10, 11, 12, 13- ELA (All grades)
May 24, 25, 26th- Math (All grades)
June 2- 8th grade Science MSP
Learn more about the state assessments on the district website.
We highly encourage students to be present during the scheduled assessment times. If you have a planned absence during the testing window, please let Katy Rudolph and Alicia Melton know as soon as possible. If you have questions about this year's state assessments, please contact Katy Rudolph.
I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your students this year. It is hard to believe we have only one week until spring break. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me at krudolph@lwsd.org.

Traffic Update
We have met with Facilities and are working on solutions to improve the traffic flow in our parking lot. Work will be completed over Spring Break to add a second traffic lane in the existing parking lot. The current "No Parking" striping will be extended on the left side of the parking lot and the curve will be softened to improve the traffic flow. This will allow two lanes of traffic: cars can pull down the right side and go straight or go down the left side at the Y, thus allowing more cars to pull forward faster and drop off/pick up their student in an efficient manner. The "No Parking" designation will be in effect during the peak drop off and pick up times only; parents can still park there during the day and for evening events.
We are grateful to the Facilities department for brainstorming solutions with us and for completing the work this school year. We look forward to improved traffic flow in the EMS parking lot after Spring Break.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Principal

FREE AFTER SCHOOL MOVIE!
THE INCREDIBLES!! (rated PG) *revised*
Hello Evergreen Community,
We at EMS take our role in your children's lives very seriously. We work hard to make sure that communication between staff and students, and the messages that your children receive from EMS as a whole, are positive, wholesome, and encouraging. Upon closer viewing of the movie, The Goonies, I feel that some of the subject matter and language in the film is not appropriate for our students and does not align with our goals as a school. Although it is listed in many places as a "family movie", I do not feel it should be shown at EMS. For this reason, The Goonies will not be shown at our After School Movie event on Friday, April 1st. Instead, the film shown will be The Incredibles.
The After School Movie will still take place on Friday, April 1st from 2:30-4:45pm. This is a free event and students will still need permission slips in order to attend. Permission slips will be handed out in Homeroom classes on Monday, March 28th. Permission slips need to be turned in to the basket on Ms. Nilsen's desk by Thursday, March 31st. Students will receive wristbands during lunch on Friday to stay for the movie that day. Concessions will be available for purchase.
We are still in great need of chaperones and help with concessions! If you are available to help, we need you! Sign up here:
