EVERGREEN EAGLE EXPRESS
Week of March 20, 2016 - Issue 31

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGEA
Hello Evergreen Families -

We hope this edition of the Eagle Express finds you well and enjoying the spring sunshine.  This past week was full of sunshine at Evergreen as we celebrated the wonderful accomplishments of many Eagles.  We have students who've participated in Science Bowl, Science Olympiad, Exploravision, and other events.  We were able to honor and recognize their accomplishments at our School Recognition Assembly this past Thursday.  Many of these students will now be competing at the national level and we are proud of our students' success and achievements.  We also had another student perform the Heimlich Maneuver on a sibling's friend and save their life.  The American Heart Association was able to come out and award and recognize this student's efforts.  We are grateful to Mr. Paul Blair who teaches CPR and other health-related first aid as part of the 8th grade Health class.  We hope students never have to perform CPR or other procedures on a friend or relative but we're grateful they've learned this valuable life skill and can intervene if necessary.

In addition to our focus on academics, we also have a strong connection to the arts and this weekend provided an opportunity to showcase our students' artistic abilities.  Once Upon a Mattress was an amazing display of talent performed at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse.  Fantastic job to all the participants and stage hands!  It was a joy to see these students excel in another venue outside of the traditional classroom.  Thanks to Kari Perry and all the other parent volunteers who spent countless hours helping students memorize lines, make costumes, and prepare for their performance.  They did an amazing job!

Thanks also to everyone who emailed with questions or considerations about our Student Expectations.  We hope the additional clarifications answered any residual questions and dispelled any rumors.  Each Spring we review our Student Handbook and Expectations with parents, staff, and students.  We will convene this committee later in May and revisit all of the policies and procedures in the student agenda.  If you are interested in being a participant or have additional feedback the committee should consider, please email us with your thoughts or interests.  Please also review last week's Eagle Express and provide feedback or responses to our mid-year check-in as well.

Lastly, this past week was Classified Appreciation Week and we want to say thank you to all our Classified Staff for their efforts and contributions to EMS.  We appreciate their dedication and commitment and we appreciate all the support from our PTSA and parents who brought in treats to help recognize their efforts.  Thanks to all for your contributions.

We appreciate partnering with you and supporting your student academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.  If there are additional things to discuss or clarifications still needed, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thanks and take care and GO EAGLES!
