PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Hello Evergreen Families -
We have had an amazing February and we look forward to the last full week as well. We strive to create a warm, welcoming, caring and conducive learning environment at Evergreen and last week was no exception. To highlight a few key events that give a glimpse into how we help shape climate and culture, we hosted a spirit week, and it was fantastic to see so many students and staff dressed up as tacky tourists or in comfy cozy clothes. In addition, counselors and administrators frequently form a high-5 line during passing periods and students come down the row high-5ing each one of us. We also hosted a lunch jam on Friday and had music playing at all three lunches. Students were all smiles as they sang along to some of their favorite songs and a few even engaged in some light dancing. Another way we focus on building connections to Evergreen is through our student clubs. To give a glimpse in to a few of our clubs, our Multicultural Club created a display of prominent African Americans who have shaped our history in celebration of Black History Month. Our Science Club is learning physics and building trebuchets while also competing in regional and national competitions. And our Environmental Club is busily composting lunch waste to reduce the impact on our landfills.
All of these activities and others give students an opportunity to feel connected to Evergreen and make a positive impact in our school. Although smiles can be a quantifiable data point on which we could collect data in the future, we are qualitatively collecting data and we see smiles all around us. Disneyland may claim to be the "Happiest Place on Earth" but I would contend that Evergreen is. Evergreen is focused on building a positive culture and climate for our students and staff, and these were just a few highlights this past week that focused on how we create a positive climate and culture.
We appreciate all your support and we look forward to the remaining four months of the school year. As always, please let us know how we can best support your student academically, socially, emotionally, or behaviorally.
Wishing you all our best for a great week ahead,
Robert Johnson
