PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
|
Hello Evergreen Families -
While we only had four school days last week, and perhaps many students were grateful, we wanted to recognize the real reason for our day off from school. In the spirit of Thanksgiving and honoring Veteran's Day, we want to send a heartfelt thanks to all our Veterans for their service to our country. We recognize that freedom is not free and that your sacrifice is what gives us the liberties and freedoms we have today. The ASB and Trish Miller planned an outstanding assembly on Tuesday and students were very respectful throughout. EMS Campus Security Officer Eric Swanson was our guest speaker and he shared about his time in the US Army. Students were very attentive and excellent audience members. It was a moving assembly and students understood the magnitude of what it means to serve our country.
So to all our Veterans, we thank you for your service and sacrifice.
With deep appreciation and gratitude,
Robert Johnson

SCHOOL NEWS

OFFICE STAFF REQUESTS FOR PARENTS *new*
The school year is off to a great start and as we close out the first quarter we have some requests for parents to help our students grow in their independence and reduce the amount of deliveries being made each day.
We are happy to deliver items left at home to your student; however, we ask that you limit your drop-offs to only those items necessary for the school day (lunch or laptops). Consequences from forgetting homework are a natural consequence and learning opportunity for our students and may decrease the number of times it happens in the future.
We want your students to ask us for help! Rather than you calling to find out if your student has everything they need for sports, lunch accounts or clubs, have your students ask the questions about what is needed for sports, clubs, etc.. We understand they don't always come home with all of the information, but this is a skill we would like them to work on through middle school so they have practice before high school.
8TH GRADE PANORAMIC PICTURE ORDER FORM *updated*
Lifetouch will be at EMS on November 20th to do a panoramic picture of all the 8th graders. The deadline for ordering a copy of the picture is November 20. If you would like a copy of the picture, you must PREORDER. Additional orders will not be accepted. The price for the panoramic picture is $18.00. Your student may pick up a form outside the cashier's window and pay with cash or check. You can order online at www.mylifetouch.com but you must still pick up a form at school and write down a payment code that you receive. For online ordering use Picture Day ID Code LS115057TO.
NJHS THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
As we look ahead to Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, please choose once again to help donate to those who are much less fortunate. We hope you will participate in the NJHS Thanksgiving Food Drive and be a part in improving our community.
All the food will be donated to HOPELINK. Anything helps and with every donation, you will be impacting a person's life positively.
Students will be able to turn in food in the morning before school on November 10-18th in the Commons. Each day will have a theme that students are encouraged to follow, but is not required.
THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE
· Tin Can Tuesday (11/10)-Anything that comes in a can
· Thanksgiving Thursday (11/12)-Foods commonly eaten on Thanksgiving
· Fruit & Veggies Friday (11/13)-Bring canned fruits and vegetables
· Mash Up Monday (11/16)-Anything fits Monday's theme!
· Toddler Tuesday (11/17)-Baby or toddler food
· Wheat & Grains Wednesday (11/18)-Anything made primarily of wheat or grains
Please also make sure that all the food donated is nonperishable.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. Choose to help us make a difference in our community and fight hunger that is threatening families all over the world.
Best Regards,
The Evergreen National Junior Honor Society
PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCES AND ATTENDANCE POLICIES
If you know in advance your student will be missing school, please call our Attendance Office at 425-936-2321 to pre-arrange the absence. Then we can enter the event into Skyward as an excused absence and you will not receive a phone call indicating your student was absent.

· other planned absences
All other absences will be considered unexcused, and students who accumulate too many unexcused absences will be subject to the Becca Bill and the King County Juvenile Court System.

PTSA MEMBERSHIP *new*
Back in the "olden days" membership fees pretty much covered the yearly PTSA budget, The more members you had the more money you made. These days PTSA's have much bigger budgets and membership fees alone will not cover all that we do. However, membership fees and having a large number of PTSA members are still important. It gives us a more of a say on legislative issues that affect children, families, and schools, as well as alerts that give you an opportunity to weigh in on a key federal policy issues with your members of Congress. Thank you to those 600 plus EMS parents that have become EMS PTSA members and remember it is not to late to become a member. Just follow the link,
complete your form, and turn it into the EMS office with your check.
