Restoring Historic Wetlands to Hamilton
On April 25, the Hamilton levee was breached, allowing the Bay's waters to reclaim a 648-acre area that will restore the marshland and the area's tidal flora & fauna. This is the largest wetland restoration project of its kind on the West Coast. The project was led by the California State Coastal Conservancy and the Army Corps of Engineers.
The Hamilton section of the Bay Trail is now open to the public. For more info on the project, public access, and volunteer opportunities, click here.

Tree Removal in Dogbone Meadow
Recently, concern about the health of a Heritage Oak tree located in Dogbone Meadow was brought to the City's attention. In response, the City hired two independent arborists who both reported the declining health of the tree and the significant hollowing of the trunk, and recommended prompt removal of the tree as it poses a risk to park patrons and their pets. In the short term, staff removed the benches from under the tree and fenced off the area. In the next couple of weeks, staff will remove the tree, closing the park only on the day that the work will occur. Information regarding this work has been sent to nearby neighbors and will be posted at the park. If you have any questions, please call the City's Maintenance Division at 899.8280. |
City Tennis Courts to Get TLC
Both the Pioneer Park and Thigpen Tennis Courts will get a much need refresh this summer. In June, these facilities will be closed for resurfacing, and the picnic area at the Pioneer Park courts will receive new lighting, improved seating, and ADA upgrades--an approximately $600,000 investment in these popular tennis courts. Thigpen will be closed through June 27 and Pioneer will be closed through August 15. |
