News Highlights

In October, the City completed the installation of a traffic signal (pictured above) at the intersection of Redwood Blvd. and Olive Avenue to improve traffic flow. Prior to the installation, drivers had to "double stop" at two stop signs before proceeding through the intersection. Public Works staff has been monitoring the traffic flow and continues to make minor tweaks as needed, to improve the driving and pedestrian experience at this busy intersection.

In other City news:

Also last month, the City Council approved a bond refinance, which will save money for Novato property owners, and also approved the sale of the historic Silva Kuser House. Council also thanked Capt. Dave Jeffries who is retiring after 31 years with the Novato Police Department (NPD), and welcomed interim Captain Tony Gillotte--who previously worked at the NPD for 30 years--as well as five new police officers.

The City Council received presentations on the workplan for the City's General Plan update (video) as well as an update on the City's Downtown Business Improvement District. The final Environmental Impact Report (EIR)for the Housing Element was released on Oct. 24, and the Planning Commission unanimously recommended the adoption of the Housing Element and certfication of the EIR at their Nov. 4 meeting.

Smooth Runnin' on South Novato Blvd

Our City maintenance crews are always in action! Over the past few weeks, crews have been removing trip hazards and replacing paving on the bike and pedestrian path along S. Novato Blvd. Stubborn roots and thick asphalt have not deterred their efforts--as all should be complete now.

A note from your Public Works Department: you may have noticed that the water level in Scottsdale Pond is very low. After two winters of less-than-adequate rainfall, our creeks aren't supplying the amount of water to fill the Pond to capacity. Good news is the "sago pondweed," which has to be removed regularly isn't able to thrive and crews may not have to contend with it as much next year. Questions? Contact Public Works at 899.8246.
