In September, the City held two public workshops to vision possibilities for land uses and development along the North Redwood Blvd. Corridor. Whether you were able to attend or not, we would love to hear your thoughts about this key corridor in our City. Please share your thoughts right now, online!
News Highlights

On Sept. 14, the City held the first of two public workshops to create a community vision for the North Redwood Corridor, between Olive Avenue and San Marin Drive. Novatans provided detailed, thoughtful ideas for land uses along this key corridor in our City--including suggestions for a "lifestyle retail center," pedestrian-oriented mixed-use development with ground-floor retail and housing and public gathering spaces, light industrial, hotel, and medium-box retail development. On Sept. 28, architects presented those ideas via sketches and approximately 100 participants weighed in on each of the drawings. For updates on this effort and to share your thoughts, go to www.novato.org/opennovato.

In other City news:

At their Sept. 10 meeting, City Council approved clarified language for the City's existing "leash law," and during their Sept. 24 meeting, Council received a presentation of the City's economic development workplan and approved, by a 4-1 vote, a budget request for the extension of the Shop Local campaign and pursuit of a Biotech/Life Science cluster. Council also approved an agreement with Marin County for Measure A funds, and accepted the annual report from the Citizens' Measure F Oversight Committee. The annual report provides an a specific accounting of collected and expended Measure F funds, which continue to be used to offset further budget reductions, and maintain and restore vital City services including public safety, park maintenance, and street repair.

Additional dates and times were announced for "Frankly Speaking"--an opportunity to meet one-on-one with City Manager Michael Frank and share your thoughts and ask questions about Novato.

 Are You Ready to ShakeOut?

On Thursday, October 17 at 10:17 a.m., you can join the City of Novato, and millions of Californians who will "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" in The Great California ShakeOut, the largest earthquake drill ever!

Why is your participation important? As with anything, to act quickly you must practice often. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake before strong shaking knocks you down, or something falls on you.

Everyone can participate! Individuals, families, businesses, schools, government agencies, community groups, and other organizations are all invited to register at www.shakeout.org. For more tips on preparing for the next earthquake, go to www.earthquakecountry.org.

Remember: Only RAIN Down the Drain!

Flooding can occur during the rainy season if trash, leaves, grass clippings, etc. are not disposed of properly. Please use your "green waste" bins provided by your local garbage hauler, take your yard waste to the Redwood Landfill (8950 Redwood Hwy, Novato), or use your clippings and woody debris to fertilize your garden and enrich the soil. For more information, contact the City's Public Works Dept. at 899.8246 or go to www.mcstoppp.org.
