Opening Quote, Scripture, and Prayer

Opening Scripture of the Week:

". . .the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment. . . ."
(2 Peter 2:9, English Standard Version)

Opening Prayer of the Week:

"Lord, in the midst of trials, I am frustrated, saddened, angry, disappointed, and self-centered. Help me to be centered on You, Lord. Help me to persevere. Help me to trust in You -- that I would not attempt to take these challenges into my own hands. You DO know how to rescue me from trials when I am acting righteously. Help me maintain my self-control, so I do not act unrighteously. Amen."

Opening Quote of the Week:

"This life therefore is not righteousness, but growth in righteousness, not health, but healing, not being but becoming, not rest but exercise. We are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it, the process is not yet finished, but it is going on, this is not the end, but it is the road. All does not yet gleam in glory, but all is being purified." (Martin Luther, 1483-1546, German monk, Catholic priest, professor of theology and seminal figure of a reform movement in 16th century Christianity, subsequently known as the Protestant Reformation)

Puns of the Week:

"I wondered why the baseball kept getting bigger. Then it hit me."

"A vulture boarded an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looked at him and said, 'I'm sorry, sir. Only one carrion allowed per passenger.'"
