HAPPY SUMMER VACATION! We hope your families are enjoying much rest and rejuvenation, as you anticipate the start of the 2013-2014 school year! We miss you at Des Moines Christian! We can't wait until you return. YOU are the reason we are here! We look forward to serving you through excellent Christ-centered, biblically-directed education in the school year to come!

ONLY 25 calendar days until the first day of school on Wednesday, August 21, 2013! (But who's counting?!!)

Did You Know?
DMCS Board Treasurer Nate Schelhaas played basketball as a starting guard at Dordt College for then head coach Greg Van Soelen,
who is currently the DMCS Athletic Director.

Opening Quote, Scripture, and Prayer

Opening Puns of the Week:

"Atheism is a non-prophet organization."

"Two hats were hanging on a hat rack in a hallway. One hat said to the other, 'You stay here; I'll go on a head.'"

Worship Music Typos of the Week:

"Amazon love, how can it be?!"

"Angles We Have Heard on High" (We assume they are "right" angles!)

"Forgive us our debits, as we forgive our debtors." (Not exactly the same meaning.)

DMCS News
Thanks SO MUCH to the three dozen or so Des Moines Christian students, parents, and staff who walked the Urbandale Fourth of July parade, serving with such joy as ambassadors for Christ! DMC certainly wants to be represented in the community where we "reside," and I, Dr. Bob, believe we have a very prominent and positive presence in the City of Urbandale! Far more than that, we were able to join in the city's celebration of our country's founding and freedom, and we were again reminded of our freedom in Christ! God bless America, and I praise God that He is sovereign King over our country and the universe!

Notes from Cross Trainers
I had the distinct privilege to speak to a men's breakfast group at St. Paul A.M.E. Church on Saturday, July 6, 2013. If you would like to read my commentary on Joshua, the Battle of Jericho, and, even more specifically, Joshua's interaction with the Angel of the Lord's army before the Battle of Jericho, "No," please click here.

I served as a social media volunteer at PromiseKeepers in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Friday-Saturday, July 19-20, 2013 -- tweeting highlights and posting Facebook entries. It was a blast! What a great PK! I am a PK veteran, having attended twice in Des Moines, twice in Dallas, twice in Cedar Falls, Boulder (which was a part of my conversion experience in 1994), Minneapolis, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. (with over 1,000,000 of my closest guy friends in 1997)! PK in CF on July 19-20 was excellent. If you would like to read the summary of my notes, please click here
On Wednesday, July 24, 2013, Jim Mars shared a very practical decision-making matrix with the men of CrossTrainers. If you would like to read my summary of Jim's message,"The Matrix," please click here
