PureJoy

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."  (James 1:2-4)

Opening Quote, Scripture, and Prayer
Opening Quote of the Week:

"I know God won't give me anything I can't handle.  I just wish he didn't trust me so much."  (Mother Teresa, 1910-1997, Catholic Albanian nun)

Scripture of the Week:
"But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, 'You are my God.'  My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!"  (Psalm 31:14, English Standard Version)

Prayer of the Week:
"Dear Lord, make me aware of the spiritual battle when it is raging around me.  Don't allow me to be naive about that battle, temptations, my flesh, or sin.  I do sometimes feel as though I am being attacked by my enemies and persecutors, but don't allow me to ever take the attitude of a victim.  I am no victim.  I am Your child!  I am a child of God!  I am more than a conqueror!  You stand before me and beside me.  You are my rear guard.  I trust in You, Lord.  My times are in your hand.  YOU ARE MY GOD!"

DMCS News

New Bleachers Meet Safety Requirements: Spring is here, and you may have noticed new bleachers for our softball field and for our baseball field. Each year, our insurance company visits the school and recommends or requires changes for safety purposes. Our prior outdoor bleachers were out of compliance and needed to be replaced or updated. In March, new bleachers were ordered for baseball and softball. This month, the old bleachers have been moved, concrete was poured, and the new bleachers were installed. These new bleachers are now "safe" and ADA compliant. This summer, our facility team will modify the bleachers located by the football/soccer field, using the old bleachers as parts.   The funding from this project came primarily from an account we call "Funded Depreciation" (opened in 2004). Funded Depreciation is a DMCS savings account that has been designated for "major" equipment and building repairs and replacements. This same fund was used to re-surface and repaint over half of the parking lot last summer - and to purchase our new school bus.

Mega-congratulations to the varsity girl's track and field team and Coaches Cindy Kostek, Jodi Sunderman, and Scott Sammons on their 3rd place finish at the state track meet. This is an amazing culmination to an outstanding year for these young ladies. Results of the events which scored at the state meet follow.   The Distance Medley Relay and the 4x400 Meter Relay were both state champions! Members of the Distance Medley were Kylee Thiner, Emily Moore, Maddie Hilsabeck, and Linnea Stephens. Members of the 4x400 Relay were Oksana Covey, Ashley Stevens, Linnea Stephens, and Maddie Hilsabeck.   Linnea placed 2nd in the 1500, improving her own school record by nearly 5 seconds! Oksana placed 3rd in the 400 meters with a new school record time! The Sprint Medley Relay with team members of Kylee, Emily, Oksana, and Maddie placed 3rd, also setting a new school record! Maddie Hilsabeck placed 5th in the 200, and Ashley Stevens placed 7th in the 800! The 4x800 Meter Relay (with team members of Ashley, Morgan Brown, Taylor Dubberke, and Linnea Stephens) also placed 7th. With all the success of this team over the year, the overriding characteristic of these ladies is that they ran, leaped, and threw all for the Lord and His glory! We praise God for representing Him and Des Moines Christian so well throughout horrible spring weather!

The DMC varsity cheerleaders are hosting a family night at Chick-Fil-A as a fundraiser. Please join us for a fabulous family night out on Tuesday, May 28th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Chick-Fil-A in front of Kohl's in West Des Moines (6555 Mills Civic Parkway). Please invite friends and neighbors to help support the DMC cheerleaders! Rumor has it Cow may even make an appearance, so it's sure to be a great photo opportunity!
Notes from Cross Trainers, Seminars, and Chapels

I was privileged to lead the penultimate (next-to-last) Elementary Chapel on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. We awarded Box Top winners, honored the sixth graders, blessed the audience with the words of the sixth graders, and commissioned the fifth graders in the DMC Class of 2020 to provide positive leadership during the 2013-2014 school year. If you would like to read a typewritten compilation of the sixth graders' memories and advice to the Elementary students, please click here.

Dr. Gary Rosberg, Founder of CrossTrainers, addressed the men of CrossTrainers on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. If you would like to read my summary of Dr. Rosberg's message, "Men, How Are You Leading Your Family? Part 4," please click here.

The next ePulse will be published on Friday May 31, 2013.

Closing Quote:
