PureJoy

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."  (James 1:2-4)

Opening Joke, Quote, Scripture, and Prayer

Opening Line of a Joke:

I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. . .

This Week's Opening Quote:

"A subject for a great poet would be God's boredom after the seventh day of creation."

(Friedrich Nietzsche, 1844-1900, German atheist philosopher)

This Week's Scripture:

Who created the universe?

"All things were made through him, and without him nothing was made that was made." (John 1:3)

This Week's Opening Prayer:

"Father God, I am so grateful that you were ANYTHING BUT BORED after the six days of Creation. You, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit CELEBRATED and WORSHIPED in joy for all that came into existence. Lord, how can anyone look at the complexity, uniqueness, magnificence, and originality of Your creation and deny that You exist?! Thank You, Lord, especially, for creating me. I praise You for the life I enjoy, and I long to give this life back to You in absolute submission to Your will. So help me, God. Amen."

School-Wide Announcements

For those who are interested, Ravi Zacharias recited the following poem from memory, weaving the famous piece seamlessly into his Iowa Prayer Breakfast message on Thursday, March 28, 2013:

"Ozymandias"

By Percy Bysshe Shelley

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed."
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Out of the Mouth of Babes

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined! See what you think:

"Love is what make you smile when you're tired." (Terri, age 4)

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy, and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK." (Danny, 7)

For Our Grandparents

Story #1: My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, "Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?" I mentally polished my halo, and I said, "No, how are we alike?" "You're both old," he replied.

Story #2: A little girl was diligently pounding away on her grandfather's word processor. She told him she was writing a story. "What's it about?" he asked. "I don't know, " she replied. "I can't read."
