Editing and Periodic Writing by Dr. Bob Stouffer, Superintendent Development by Marilyn Wilson and Published by Lisa Fitzgerald
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." (James 1:2-4)

Mrs. Brown and her husband are on a bowling team. Their goal is to be a light for Jesus at the bowling alley. They always pray before they bowl. It must be effective, because
they have placed first in the league two years in a row!

Opening Quote, Joke, Scripture, and Prayer
|
Opening Line of a Joke:
"They told me I had Type-A blood. . ."
This Week's Opening Quote:
"If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that he said; if he didn't rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what he said? The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching but whether or not he rose from the dead." (Timothy Keller, 1950-, American Christian Pastor and apologist, from The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism)
This Week's Scripture:
And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister. (Colossians 1:21-23, English Standard Version)
This Week's Opening Prayer:
"Father God, thank You for sending Jesus to earth when no one else could fulfill that purpose. Thank You for bearing the burden of placing all of Your wrath on Him, when it is we who have deserved Your anger, death, and eternal damnation. Thank You for envisioning this plan even before Creation. Most of all, thank You for raising Jesus from the dead, so I can be a co-heir with Christ as Lord and Savior of my life. Help me understand these truths fresh and anew during this Easter season. Amen."

School-Wide Announcements
|
I was EXTREMELY PROUD of the entire Des Moines Christian High School student body for representing DMC, their families, and Christ so well among the reported 1,500 people at the Iowa Prayer Breakfast on Maundy Thursday, March 28th at Hy-Vee Hall! A vast majority of the students arrived well before the advertised time at school, in spite of the early hour of the morning. One mother reported that she cried tears of joy for the wonderful privilege of attending the prayer breakfast. Students were dressed nicely for the event. They conducted themselves maturely during the breakfast. What a glorious thing that a group of donors paid the way of the students and accompanying staff, so we could join THE BIGGEST prayer breakfast audience ever! Secondary Principal Austin Temperley and I believe every high school student should have one opportunity to attend the prayer breakfast during their high school careers, so we hope to repeat this excellent all-high school "field trip" in four years! This year's Iowa Prayer Breakfast was, in my opinion, THE BEST of the 13 events I have attended. Please look for my short summary of Ravi Zacharias' keynote address at "The Doctor Is In!"
The SUMMER CAMP BROCHURE is here!! We have several camps to offer this year - from students in Kindergarten through Adult! Click here for details. Please contact Jahna Duda if you have questions regarding camps or registration.
"On behalf of the Board of Directors for the John Paul II Medical Research Institute, I (Kim Lehman) would like to thank the students, parents, and basketball fans of Des Moines Christian School for not only giving a generous donation of $1,893.20 [on the Hoops for Hope night] to the Institute for research, but for the support of ethical research that works to protect life. It is our hope that one day all Christian school will donate to ethical research. Des Moines Christian is one of the first, and we hope to see more schools all over the country follow your example. As Christians, we know it is not enough to say we support ethical research; it is when we act upon our convictions that change is made for God's glory. Des Moines Christian is setting a standard. May the Lord bless you for all you are doing to impact the Kingdom of God. Sincerely, Kim Lehman, Give Cures Director, John Paul II Medical Research Institute"

There are still tickets available to our 26th Annual Benefit and Auction on Friday Night, April 5. Around 140 students will perform, speak and serve during the event. We have nearly 150 Silent Auction packages and a dozen Live items. The wide variety of items means everyone should find something that appeals to them. The Christiani's Buffet never disappoints and the dessert bar caps off a delicious meal. The Benefit & Auction IS our major fundraiser for the year, please join in and be part of the blessing. This year's auction will feature a trip for 2 people to join one of a Blessman Ministries trip once they arrive at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport in South Africa. This includes all meals, transportation, and lodging while in South Africa, as well as a portion of the ministry supplies, administrative costs and outreach expenses for your team. This also includes 2 photo safaris for two people to take together: one on the game farm on which our property is located and one at Legend Golf & Safari, a big 5 game farm near our campus. The airfare expenses would be up to the participant as they are not included, however, they would be booked through our ministry as a part of the team they join. Because we work in ministry with children, we do require all mission trip participants to pass a background screening. This package is valued at approximately $3,600.

GREAT News - Des Moines Christian School beat Dallas Center-Grimes in Box Tops collections!! DMC students have collected $4,267.20 so far this year, and we are halfway to our goal of $8,500. DMCS is ranked #2 of all schools within a 25-mile radius (just behind Anderson Elementary in Bondurant by a mere $100 and #4 in the state behind Berg Elementary in Newton). Our new goal is to move to #1 in the state, but we cannot do so without your help! Please send in your Box Tops before they expire on June 1st. To make collection of the Box Tops easier, just put them in a baggie, and don't forget your name and grade on them!

Out of the Mouth of Babes
|
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined! See what you think:
"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other." (Karl, age 5)
"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs." (Chrissy, age 6)

For Our Grandparents
|
Story #1: After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice, "Who was THAT?"
Story #2: A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like. "We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods." The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, "I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!"

Closing Quote:
"I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." (Jesus - the Christ, God, Lord, Savior, Redeemer - in John 11:25-26, Holy Bible, King James Version)
Closing Punchline:
"They told me I had Type-A blood. . .
But it was a Typo-O."
