"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." (James 1:2-4)

Opening Quote, Scripture, and Prayer
|
This Week's Opening Quote:
"As a little girl, I heard grown-ups repeat a Bible verse that I was certain said, 'God loveth a cheerful liver.' I asked my grandma what a liver was. 'It's a part inside you,' she told me, 'like your stomach or your heart.' I puzzled over how to get my insides to be more cheerful. One day in Sunday school, an older kid set me straight: 'It's giver, not liver.' But I don't think I got it all that wrong. God does love a cheerful liver." (Mary Ann O'Roark)
This Week's Scripture:
"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7, English Standard Version)
This Week's Prayer:
"Lord, thank You so much that people give so willingly, generously, and cheerfully of their time, talents, and treasures at Des Moines Christian School. Your Holy Spirit moves in their hearts and minds, and they respond so amazingly. Lord, we too often clench our hands around "our" possessions. EVERY good gift comes from heaven - FROM YOU - and I am so filled with joy when I see the remarkable generosity of everyone around me at DMC. I praise You, Lord, for that! AMEN!"

Freeing Slaves in Sudan
|
Last week, Des Moines Christian Alumnus Joel Veldkamp ('06) gave chapel presentations to the Elementary and Secondary students. If you would like to read the text of Joel's Secondary Chapel message, please click here. You can view Joel's presentation on our You Tube channel. Two of the objects of financial giving were (1) freeing a North Sudanese slave ($50), and (2) buying a goat for nutritional production of milk and cheese ($60). The Des Moines Christian students and families responded with their typical generosity and passion. Fifth grade Jody Keithley ventured to the Secondary Office on the morning of January 9th - to count the donations we've collected thus far. She pulled the first check out of the box, exclaimed loudly, and began weeping. She cried the rest of the time she was counting; and, as she left the office, she could barely speak. She was overcome with JOY at the generosity of our DMC families. The total was already around $1,600! One of the DMC staff members who observed what was happening wrote, "My heart is full! Isn't it great to be here?! To be alive?! To be a child of the King?!" I, Dr. Bob, say, "AMEN! UNBELIEVABLE. I am TOTALLY humbled by this testimony. The generosity of DMC students NEVER ceases to amaze me. God is moving. I pray His Holy Spirit pours over EVERY student, staff member, and parent in seemingly impossible ways. To God be all the praise and honor and glory! AMEN!"

Volunteer needed! Our beautiful "Festival of Trees" Christmas tree, donated several years ago, has become "The Leaning Tower of Treezza." We need a volunteer to disassemble the poor thing. We would like to save the gorgeous ornaments that are wired to the tree. The tree itself could be saved, if someone handy can get the "lean" out of it. Can you help? Please contact Peggy Lettow at 252-2496.
