Opening Quote, Scripture, and Prayer
|
This Week's Opening Quote:
"I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year." (Charles Dickens, 1812-1870, English writer)
This Week's Scripture:
"6For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this." (Isaiah 9:6-7, English Standard Version)
This Week's Prayers:
"Thank you, Jesus, for coming to this earth. Thank you SO MUCH! I am so grateful that You were willing to give up the glories of heaven to trudge through the dirt and sin of this world, ever-marching to the cross, ever-sinless, ever-committed to doing the will of the Father! For the joy set before you - a return to heaven and reconciliation between God and all who believe - you endured death on the cross! Thank You, Jesus, for living, dying, and conquering death, so I, too, can share everlasting life as a co-heir! AMEN!

Members are 4th graders Alex Mona and Kacey Pierce; fifth graders Sam Hass and Jacob Martin; sixth graders Amanda Mona, Jonah Mudlaff, Lydia Samuelson, Blake Schmitz, and Nick Fejfar; and seventh grader Nicholas Oswald. These students have trained since May to learn how to compete in the First Lego League Project, Robot Game, and Core Value areas. As a result, this Robotics team "Golden PlatyPI" had the #1 Robot out of 72 rounds of Robot competition at the Des Moines regional competition at the Science Center of Iowa on Saturday, Dec.1! Praise the Lord for their success! Our charter team will return in the fall of 2013 to defend our #1 robot game status and take the trophy on our way to the state competition! Honor Band Congratulations!
Congratulations to juniors Courtney Zonnefeld, Kayla Cary, and Lynae Dadisman - and freshman Caroline Jones for their selection and participation in the Drake University Honor Band!
Congratulations to junior Lynae Dadisman and freshman Caroline Jones on their selection to the SCIBA Honor Band! Their auditions qualified them to perform on January 5, 2013 at Ames High School.
From Jodi Sunderman, Secondary Art Teacher: As you may have already seen on the school website or in the Des Moines Register, the Secondary Art Teacher position is being opened up as a long-term subbing position for the spring semester of this school year (2012-2013). I am excited to be expecting a baby in January, 2013, and my husband and I have been prayerfully considering what the best decision is for our family at this point. My desire is to continue to teach at Des Moines Christian, but, with the busyness that comes with full-time teaching, and the amount of time and work that goes into the spring art shows, we have decided that it would be better for me to pour more of my love and attention on our new little one, and trust the hands of another art educator with the Secondary art students. I do trust and pray that God will lead someone great to fill in for the remainder of the year in the art room. Thanks for all of your love and support as we soon welcome our first child into the world!!! With love, T.J. and Jodi Sunderman

The TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) has been renamed DMC$ DOLLAR$! Our new name is intended to communicate to all families that anyone and everyone can reduce tuition expense at DMCS through this program. DMC$ DOLLAR$ is not a needs-based program. Almost 200 DMCS families are currently participating in DMC$ DOLLAR$, and weekly gift card sales will reach their peak in the months of November and December, as families use this program not only for gas and groceries, but also for Christmas shopping. If you want to know how you can earn hundreds or thousands of dollars a year, please visit the DMCS website and click on the DMC$ DOLLAR$ tab, or contact Michelle Bailey. We want to help you set up your account to earn tuition credits or to make payments to your lunch account.

Paraprosdokian of the Week:
"If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong."
(Paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected and frequently humorous.)
Closing Quote:
"Christmas can be celebrated in the school room with pine trees, tinsel and reindeers, but there must be no mention of the man whose birthday is being celebrated. One wonders how a teacher would answer if a student asked why it was called Christmas." (Ronald Reagan, 1911-2004, 40th President of the United States of America)
Sincerely,
 Dr. Bob Stouffer, Superintendent
