PureJoy

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."  (James 1:2-4)
Did You Know?
Mrs. Wright, Secondary Business and Technology Teacher, and her husband were square dancers for seven years!

Opening Quote, Scripture, and Prayer

This Week's Opening Quote -

"Faith makes all things possible....love makes all things easy."
(Dwight L. Moody, American evangelist, 1837-1899)

This Week's Scripture -
". . .my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:30)

This Week's Prayer -

"Father God, I take on so many challenges in my own strength. I am so independent. I want to forge my own path. I do not understand that Your strength is made perfect in my weakness. I am too independent. I do not rest in the assurances of Your promises in Scripture. You tell me to come to You when I am burdened. You will give me peace. Your yoke is easy. Your burden is light. So, Lord, please help me to depend more upon You and Your strength, so I can rest in the power of Your will. Amen."

Elementary Wrestling Clinic

Grades K-1 will be held on November 13,14, 15, 16,19, and 20.

The clinics are located in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Extra sign-up sheets are available in the Elementary Office.

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoe boxes. Yet the impact of OCC goes far beyond smiles and laughter. These simple gifts become gospel opportunities, opening hurting hearts to experience the transforming power of Jesus Christ. God has done a mighty work through this ministry, and we are excited to be able to collect prepared shoebox gifts from students at DMC who are willing to lovingly prepare them.   Students/parents who choose to complete a shoebox should bring their filled and ready-to-go boxes to school on Wednesday, November 14th. On the day of chapel, the students will bring their shoeboxes to the front of the Multi-Purpose Room, where they will be prayed over and then delivered to the state collection center located in Urbandale. Questions? Contact Laura Oswald at 681-6157.

Business Office News

The TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) has been renamed DMC$ DOLLAR$!  Our new name is intended to communicate to all families that anyone and everyone can reduce tuition expense at DMCS through this program. DMC$ DOLLAR$ is not a needs-based program.  Almost 200 DMCS families are currently participating in DMC$ DOLLAR$, and weekly gift card sales will reach their peak in the months of November and December, as families use this program not only for gas and groceries, but also for Christmas shopping. If you want to know how you can earn hundreds or thousands of dollars a year, please visit the DMCS website and click on the DMC$ DOLLAR$ tab, or contact Michelle Bailey. We want to help you set up your account to earn tuition credits or to make payments to your lunch account.

Fine Arts News

From the desk of Mrs. Augustine: We received a very amazing opportunity today. The DMCS Concert Choir will be backing Kenny Rogers up in his "Kenny Rogers Hits and Christmas Show" at the end of this month! It's really a God thing, the way it all played out. Kenny Roger's production manager called this morning and left a message. When I called her back, she said that she google-searched "The best choirs in Des Moines, Iowa" and we showed up on the list of results. The crazy part is that she visited our website, went to the DMCS Facebook page, and saw the video of Victory singing the National Anthem from Elementary Chapel YESTERDAY, and called immediately. Props to Lisa Fitzgerald for being an AMAZING Marketing Manager! If you would like to see them perform at the Civic Center, please click here. We don't get discounted tickets, but if it's something you would want to purchase for a date night, go for it! Please keep the choir and myself in your prayers as we have 8-9 days to learn 5 songs!

Musical season is almost here!  Mrs. Skinner and Mrs. Augustine will be announcing this year's production NEXT WEEK.  Performances are scheduled for April 11-13, 2013.  If you are a junior high or high school student, and even remotely interested in auditioning or working on a crew, plan to come to the pre-audition meeting on Monday, November 19th from 3:45-4:15 p.m. in the Secondary Choir Room.  Mrs. Skinner and Mrs. Augustine will hand out the audition packets and tell how to prepare for auditions or sign up to work on a crew.

If you are interested in theatre but not comfortable onstage, you should sign up for a crew!  We are looking for crew heads and workers in the following categories:  choreography, house set-up, costumes, hair/make-up, props, set construction, set painting, lights, and spot lights. Actors can also serve as crew heads and will be required to work on crews.  We are also looking for one High School Assistant Stage Manager, one Junior High Stage Manager, and one Student Music Director - perfect positions for the students who want to be heavily involved as servant-leaders!   Come to the pre-audition meeting for details! For those interested in being onstage, auditions are December 3-4 in the Secondary Choir Room, and call-backs are on December 6.  Clear your calendar now! This year's show is going to be a TON of fun, and we can't wait to get started.  Prepare for the awesomeness!

Notes from Chapel & Cross Trainers

Wow. I, Dr. Bob, VERY MUCH enjoyed Secondary Chapel on Wednesday, November 7, 2012. The lead worshipers were so committed to drawing everyone into a worshipful state at the beginning of the chapel. There seems to be a sweeter spirit of worship at Secondary worship chapels. And Junior High Science Teacher Jason Parmerlee's sharing of his testimony in Christ was a HUGE encouragement to me. Do you want to be encouraged? To check out my summary of the chapel activities, "ETERNITY!" please click here.

At CrossTrainers on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, former Des Moines Christian Varsity Boys' Basketball Coach Mike Swaim shared some very personal experiences from his recent visit to Washington, D.C., especially appropriate given the election on Tuesday. If you would like to read my summary of Mike's message, "Reflection from David's Tent," please click here.

The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because generally they are the same people."
