"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." (James 1:2-4)

Opening Quote, Scripture, and Prayer
|
This Week's Opening Quote -
"Peoples will be as before, the sheep sent to the slaughterhouse or to the meadows as it pleases the shepherds." (Henri La Fontaine, Belgian lawyer, 1854-1943)
This Week's Scripture - "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." (Psalm 23:1, English Standard Version)
This Week's Prayer -
"LORD, let me abide in YOU. Allow me to be in Your presence at all times. You ARE my shepherd. You have an abundant life in mind for me. You direct me down Your paths. You will never lead me astray. I can tryst You, LORD. But I am so often a dumb sheep! Redirect me when I sin and make foolish decisions. Thank You for Your provision. Every good gift comes you You in heaven. I shall not want. Amen."

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoe boxes. Yet the impact of OCC goes far beyond smiles and laughter. These simple gifts become gospel opportunities, opening hurting hearts to experience the transforming power of Jesus Christ. God has done a mighty work through this ministry, and we are excited to be able to collect prepared shoebox gifts from students at DMC who are willing to lovingly prepare them. Students/parents who choose to complete a shoebox should bring their filled and ready-to-go boxes to school on Wednesday, November 14th. On the day of chapel, the students will bring their shoeboxes to the front of the Multi-Purpose Room, where they will be prayed over and then delivered to the state collection center located in Urbandale. Questions? Contact Laura Oswald at 681-6157.

Junior diver Emily Moore qualified for the State Swimming and Diving Championships on October 25th by taking 1at place in the Regional Competition! Emily dives for Johnson High School. Congratulations, Emily!
What a varsity volleyball season in 2012! Praise God for the accomplishments of our student-athletes and coaches -- Paige Thiner, Erin Heisterkamp, and Stephanie Veurink! All of these fine young women represented Jesus Christ in exemplary fashion. And we came within one game of qualifying for the state volleyball tournament! I (Dr. Bob) was SO PROUD of the coaches and girls when Des Moines Christian squared-off against Treynor on Wednesday, October 31 at Nodaway Valley High School in Greenfield. Our girls fought valiantly from the very first to the final point of the four-game match! There was ALWAYS great effort, even if the point seemed un-win-able! After trailing 2 games to 0, the Lions scratched and clawed to win Game 3! We were close in Game 4 until Treynor pulled away from us. I give all the credit to the Treynor girls; they were an athletic, scrappy bunch, but I shudder to think what Game 5 would have been like, if we had captured the fourth game! As it was, I was having heart palpitations during the entire match! I praise God for the OUTSTANDING witness of our volleyball program during the season. Please offer your congratulations to the players and the coaches!
The State Cheerleading Competition is scheduled for tomorrow Saturday, November 3rd at the Iowa State Fairgrounds' Jacobson Exhibition Hall and Varied Industries Building. Admission is $8/person. Please come cheer on the perennial powerhouse DMC competition cheerleaders!
Lions basketball is just around the corner! Boys' and girls' junior high basketball practice will begin on Monday, October 29. High school girls' basketball practice begins on Monday, November 5, and the boys begin on Monday, November 12. Practice times will be communicated soon!

Are you creative? Do you have artistic skills that need an outlet? This could be a match made in heaven. The 2013 Auction Committee would like to put your skills to work. Check us out at our next meeting on Tuesday, November 6 at 2:00-3:15 p.m. in the Elementary Teacher workroom. Would you like to help with the auction, but you are not artistic? We could use your services, too! Contact Peggy Lettow, Events Coordinator, at 252-2496 for more information on either of these opportunities.

The PTF Chapel Wear Thrift Store is a very popular service for families at DMC! Did you know that all of the profit which PTF receives form this event is donated to bless Joshua Christian Academy? PTF does not have enough product to have a sale right now, so, if YOU have any chapel wear to donate, please do so in the next week! If we receive enough donations, we will sell items during conferences. You can drop your items in the bin provided in the MPR, or take them to the Secondary Office. THANK YOU!
We just sent over 19,000 Box Tops! We should be receiving a check form General Mills after December 15th for approximately $3,320 (+ or - any expired Box Tops that we didn't catch). This includes the amount earned from parents playing games and answering surveys online for bonus eBox Tops (approximately $55 since August)! We currently have 343 online supporters and hope that increases as parents can support DMCS and earn more money by shopping online through eMarketplace during the upcoming Christmas season. Thank you everyone for supporting the Box Tops program. The BTFE website will be updated within a couple weeks, but this is a very good start towards reaching our goal of $8,500!

Does my one vote matter? Do my values matter? ABSOLUTELY! Every person, regardless of his or her beliefs, is voting his or her values. Public policy has a great impact on your family and your Christian school! How very important it is for Christians to approach the selection of our local and national leaders with a biblical worldview. Elementary and Early Education families will receive a non-partisan voter guide in School-Home-School folders. Additional copies can be found in all school offices. Other sources of information include the following:
Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition Multi-issue voter guides for both national and statewide races

Become an educated voter. VOTE! And PRAY! that our votes would glorify God more than they would serve us.
