PureJoy

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."  (James 1:2-4)
Did You Know?
Mrs.Boley, Junior High Show Choir Director, didn't eat a single french fry in 2011!

Opening Quote, Scripture, and Prayer

This Week's Opening Quote -

"The confession of evil works is the first beginning of good works."
(St. Augustine, 354-430, Catholic Saint)

This Week's Scripture -
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9, English Standard Version)

This Week's Prayer -

"God, You are so faithful. Thank You for Your faithfulness. I sin. I know I do. Yet I so often ignore or rationalize my sin. Help me to confess my sin to You. I am sinning against a perfect, holy, and righteous God. I know You will forgive me. I know You will cleanse me from all unrighteousness. So help me, God. Amen.

Your Vote Matters

Does my one vote matter?
Do my values matter? ABSOLUTELY! Every person, regardless of his or her beliefs, is voting his or her values. Public policy has a great impact on your family and your Christian school! How very important it is for Christians to approach the selection of our local and national leaders with a biblical worldview. Elementary and Early Education families will receive a non-partisan voter guide in School-Home-School folders. Additional copies can be found in all school offices. Other sources of information include the following:

Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition

Multi-issue voter guides for both national and statewide races

National Right to Life Committee

Life issues voting records of candidates for Congress, U.S. Senate, and President

The Family Leader
Information regarding judicial retention on the ballot

Iowa Right to Life Committee
Request information regarding state candidates' positions on life issues.

(515) 244-1012 or e-mail

Iowa Association of Christian Schools

IACS does not have specific candidate information; however, you can read about legislative issues that affect Christian Schools and ask your candidates about their position.

Become an educated voter. VOTE! And PRAY! that our votes would glorify God more than they would serve us.

Iowa Assessment Sessions During Parent-Teacher Conferences

If you recently missed the opportunity to hear Jennifer Riedemann, Heartland AEA Assessment Consultant, share information about the new Iowa Assessments administered last spring, you can attend two informational sessions during parent-teacher conferences. Jahna Duda, Director of Curriculum & Assessment, will be on hand Tuesday, October 30 and Thursday, November 1 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Secondary Media Center to discuss the recent changes to the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) and Iowa Tests of Educational Development (ITED), which are now called Iowa Assessments (IA). DMC students took these new  assessments last spring, and many parents have asked how to interpret the new scores. Bring your child's assessment reports, which were mailed home with report cards, and learn how to interpret standard score, percentile rank, and grade equivalent information. Teachers will also be available to answer questions during conferences. Please RSVP to Jahna Duda.

Development News

The Merle Hay Mall "Be True to Your School" promotion ends on October 31.  Did you purchase anything at MHM?  Did you submit that amount to be credited to DMCS? If you have purchased items at Merle Hay Mall during the "Be True to Your School" promotion, but didn't take them to Customer Service, we can do that for you.  Put your name on the receipts in a self-addressed envelope, turn them in to the Development Office, and we will do the legwork.  We will mail your receipts back to you.  Thanks!

Serve up some cookies and smiles! We need volunteer help with the Open House on Grandparents Day - Friday, December 7th. Our Open House is from 1:00-2:00 p.m. The task will be easy, but oh so helpful! Perhaps you are the parent of a Secondary student and have some time that afternoon to help us; if so, please contact Peggy Lettow at 252-2496. (Ephesians 6:7)

Attention, current DMCS parents and guardians - We are working to identify school parents who are alums.  If you attended DMCS or graduated from DMCS, would you please respond to Samona Yentes to let her know what grades you attended while at DMCS and what year you graduated or left DMCS?  Thank you!

Do you have experience in selling or working with collectibles, auctions, Craig's list, etc. and would you like to use your expertise in a volunteer capacity for DMCS?  The school has received an in-kind gift of collectibles, and we are looking for assistance in selling the entire collection.  Please contact Peggy or Mona in the Development Office at 252-2496 for more information.

Are you creative?  Do you have artistic skills that need an outlet?  This could be a match made in heaven. The 2013 Auction Committee would like to put your skills to work.  Check us out at our next meeting on Tuesday, November 6 at 2:00-3:15 p.m. in the Elementary Teacher workroom.  Would you like to help with the auction, but you are not artistic?  We could use your services, too!  Contact Peggy Lettow, Events Coordinator, at 252-2496 for more information on either of these opportunities.

Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoe boxes. Yet the impact of OCC goes far beyond smiles and laughter. These simple gifts become gospel opportunities, opening hurting hearts to experience the transforming power of Jesus Christ. God has done a mighty work through this ministry, and we are excited to be able to collect prepared shoebox gifts from students at DMC who are willing to lovingly prepare them.   Students/parents who choose to complete a shoebox should bring their filled and ready-to-go boxes to school on Wednesday, November 14th. On the day of chapel, the students will bring their shoeboxes to the front of the Multi-Purpose Room, where they will be prayed over and then delivered to the state collection center located in Urbandale. Questions? Contact Laura Oswald at 681-6157.
