HATCH highlights
Thanks to you, HATCH was a huge success!

Thank you, Champaign-Urbana (and beyond!) for making The I.D.E.A. Store's inaugural edition of the HATCH creative-reuse festival what News-Gazette reporter Melissa Merli pronounced in her blog coverage to be a "resounding success"!

Although the festival itself is now in the rearview mirror, don't forget that the HATCH Art Exhibition at Indi Go Artist Co-Op will continue on view through Sunday, March 17. Gallery hours are 1-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 15-16; and 5-7 p.m. Monday-Friday.

In case you missed the festival, which took place in various locations throughout Champaign March 1-3, or if you'd just like to revisit all the fun we had, here are some photos from the fest (many more on the HATCH Facebook page):

reuse repurpose create
If you missed your chance to purchase one of these signed limited-edition prints by local artist Lisa Kesler (one of the HATCH Art Fair artist-vendors), you can still do so through
Saturday, March 15. They are available at the store for $30 each.

These handmade linoleum-block and letterpress prints make great reminders to yourself or others (think Mother's Day, birthdays, holidays!) to REUSE REPURPOSE CREATE! Frame one for your studio or craft space, or hang one in the living room or family room and announce your passion for all to see!

They're also the perfect way to commemorate the inaugural year of HATCH. Purchasing one is also a great way to support The I.D.E.A. Store/Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation AND local art!

Books for bucks
New book-pricing promo kicks off March 15-16
books

Coming right up at The I.D.E.A. Store: the launch of our new book pricing Friday-Saturday, March 15-16 in the classroom. All books there - as well as books located throughout the store - will be $1, $2 or $4, unless marked with a special tag. Otherwise, look for the colored dots that designate prices.

We've got pages and pages of good stuff between all those covers! So, you won't want to miss the kick-off when the selections is fresh! The stash includes tons of knitting, sewing, photography, painting, costuming and imagery books, to name a few. The inventory includes all of the high-end books that didn't sell at the last blowout sale. Many are high quality; all are priced to move ($4 for the best of the art/craft/hobby books).

So be sure to stop by the store March 15-16 and take home a stack (or two)!

Meanwhile, speaking of books ... here are some amazing images and ideas for how to reuse them creatively!

Jeans too tight? No problem! We can show you how to reuse your favorite pair by transforming them into something you'll never outgrow.

Sign up today for our next workshop: "ReDesigning Denim," Tuesday March 26 from 6-9 p.m. Participants will learn prep and sewing skills for working with denim jeans, and will make three beginner projects in three hours: a purse or tote bag, work apron, and a double oven mitt.

The workshop, taught by Amy Robison, is open to those 16 years and up; participation is limited to 16 (two per sewing machine). The fee $35 fee includes all materials and take-home information, along with use of The I.D.E.A. Store tools. If you have your own pair of favorite sewing scissors, bring them along. Please preregister at the store or by phone (352-7878) by 5 p.m. Saturday, March 23. Prepayment is required to reserve a spot in the workshop.

To see more examples of the projects that will be made in this workshop, check out Environmental Outreach Specialist Carol Jo Morgan's appearance on the WICD-TV program "Sunrise" here. Also check out other recent appearances by The I.D.E.A. Store staff and volunteers; links appear to right of this clip on the WICD website.

So, What's This All About?

The Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation saw a need in the community to accomplish several things: 1.  Support the arts and arts education, 2.  Support environmental education in our communities, 3. Impact the environment by reducing the rate of waste disposal, 4. create a place for everyone to have access to quality materials and 5. Support itself in light of the difficult economic times.  So donate your discards and shop re-use.  Its about making a difference!
