Leadership Development

After the conclusion of the summer program, two Prairie Farm Corps crew leaders continue to work at the Prairie Crossing Farm, preparing for the weekly Libertyville Farmers Market.

Dylan Fishman took a few courses in the College of Lake County's Sustainable Agriculture program, and the Prairie Farm Corps was his first farm job. Dylan will be continuing his education at Montana State University studying sustainable agriculture and bioenergy systems. Working as a Prairie Farm Corps crew leader has inspired him to work with youth education in the future.

Jhansy Flores joined the Prairie Farm Corps as a crew leader after three years in the Lake County Green Youth Farm in Waukegan, a program of the Chicago Botanic Garden and Lake County Forest Preserve District. She hopes to study sustainable agriculture and loved expanding her farming knowledge this summer. She dreams of running a program similar to the Prairie Farm Corps for special needs students on her own farm someday.

Visit Dylan and Jhansy at the Libertyville Farmers Market Thursdays from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. until Oct. 16. Your purchase of certified organic vegetables supports the Prairie Farm Corps youth development program!
