SPRING WEEKEND TEAM AVAILABILITY

Team Availability - Spring 2013

Please take a moment to fill out this brief survey for your team availability for the spring. This is used for both YES and NO responses. While actual team meeting dates are not yet determined, we will post them to the website once they are determined. Weekend dates have been posted to our website.

HOW ARE TEAM MEMBERS SELECTED?
Team Selection

It is also often asked, How are Team Members Selected? You can refer to the  Leaders Manual which explains this in great detail as well. Here are a few points taken from the leaders manual about team selection (pgs 68-69):

Suggested Policies for Team Selection:
  • Approximately half should be FIRST timers in order to build experience
  • Approximately one half the team should be experienced, having served on previous weekends
  • We encourage a Rector to have their reunion group serving on the team
  • Other than reunion group, team members should only be asked to serve one team per year
  • Except in rare compelling situations, no one should serve in the same position twice, or give the same rollo a second time
  • Team members should be in reunions groups, actively involved in their church, and supporting Via de Cristo activities

Much prayer and careful consideration is put into selecting team members. Accepting the call to serve on a team involves the commitment to attend ALL team meetings, the entire weekend, and be willing to serve in ANY position.

FROM OUR LAY DIRECTOR
November News...

Welcome to the Good News! Community new Cursiistas from Weekend #51! May all the prayers lifted up for you keep you through your Fourth Day.

Hopefully you will be able to attend the upcoming Ultreya at Bethel on November 4 starting at 3:00 PM. Just bring a dish to share.

Also, please check out the website for the spring availability survey to serve on weekend #52. That will be: Men's April 11 - 14 and Women's April 18 - 21, 2013. Both will be held at St Michael Lutheran Church in Ottawa Lake, MI.

As I have mentioned before, at the last National Lutheran Secretariat Meeting in Denver, Good News! was asked to consider hosting a future National Meeting. The choices were 2014 or 2016 and our Secretariat felt that we could serve in 2016.

I would ask that all of our Brothers and Sisters in Christ check out the NLS Hosting Manual available on our website. This manual will outline and provide details as to the scope of this event. The proposed dates are July 28 - 31, 2016.

Key positions are: General Chairperson, Co-Chairperson(s), Spiritual Director(s), Treasurer, Secretary / Records Keeper, Registration/Housing, Meal Liaison, Facilities/Physical Arrangements, Communication Audio/Visual Equipment, Information Management, Hospitality / Welcoming, Transportation, Music, Palanca and Public Relations/Fund Raising. It is just like putting on a weekend - a big one!

Please check out the areas in which you feel you might have some skills or interest, would like to work in, or through prayer where the Lord might like for you to serve.

Also, a gentle reminder about Reunion Groups. Your Sponsor, Table Leader, Rector and I are all willing to help you find one.

Again, welcome and get involved. Like anything else, what you will get out of it is in direct proportion to what you put into it.

God loves you and so do I.

Phil Meuser,

Lay Director

NLS Musings - October 2012

From National Lutheran Secretariat

Grace, peace, and mercy from God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!

I am ever so grateful for God's love for us and His grace: they sustain us in times of uncertainty.

October is nearly gone and I am ever so grateful for its near passing!  My goal is to "post" this sooner in the month.  There is no logical explanation for my lateness except maybe a change of seasons.  I suppose I could blame my lateness on not yet transitioning from Daylight Savings Time.  It is disquieting when the hour of the day doesn't seem to match the rising of the sun!  But, blame is not where we want to live.

I don't need to tell anyone reading this that it is difficult to keep all the balls in the air.  I can tell you from watching trained jugglers, masters in the trade of keeping many balls in the air and plates spinning, that things quickly fall apart when the first ball drops or the first plate stops spinning.  I don't know about any of you but when that first ball drops or that first plate crashes, the response is: How could I let that happen!

This is when our faith and belief in God impacts our lives.  We all have times of crisis.  People let us down!  Things don't fall into place as we expected, hoped, or anticipated.  There are unexpected expenses (financial, physical, emotional, spiritual or any combination of the four) that drain our strength.  Maybe, just maybe, it's a phone call sometime between just after midnight to just before midnight that impacts our reality.  But, we are blessed with a resource possessing infinite wisdom, strength, encouragement, and power: God - the creator of the universe!

I continue to reflect on and trust in God's promise: "I will never leave you or forsake you."  What a glorious promise to know the creator of all we know is with us and we can rest in knowledge that we live and love and have our being in the palm of His hand!  Thank you Lord for that assurance!  I also continue to remember the poignant theme of Pastor Joe Neilson's Keynote address at our 2012 Annual Meeting: "It is not the experience...it's the journey!"

Oh, how I wish for an easier journey!  Oh, how I wish for another exhilarating experience.  Oh, how I wish for a different situation!  Oh, how I wish...!

Thank you Lord for the hope you provide!  Thank you Lord for being so faithful!  I commend Hebrews 11 to your reading.

In Christ -
Ed
NLS President

Reunion Group
These are the primary disciplines of the reunion method:

Reunion groups meet weekly at a mutually convenient time and location. This meeting is a primary commitment for its members. The format of the green service card is used including the Holy Spirit Prayer, group sharing, and touches on piety, close moments to Christ, study and plans for action to bring others closer to Christ. Members pray daily for one another.

It isn't necessary for someone to make a three-day weekend in order to participate in a group reunion.  Anyone who is willing to use the ideals of friendship and accountability as means to being better witnesses for Christ should be welcome.  A group reunion may go on for years or may need to change after a shorter period of time.  Like life, situations change and change is part of God's world.  Group reunion is an essential and valuable part of the Via de Cristo method.  Those who have invested themselves in this method will tell you of its rewards in increasing faith, hope, love and courage.

Ask your sponsor about joining a reunion group.  If this effort is unsuccessful, ask your parish rep, your rector or contact a member of the Good News Secretariat.  Every effort will be made to find a viable group in your area.
