Lift trucks: Financing for flexibility
Josh Bond, Contributing Editor Logistics Management magazine explains that with the economy warming, fleet owners are navigating a new array of customized financing options as their fleets return to normal utilization.
i. In recent years, leasing has grown in popularity and is now the preferred method for acquiring new equipment. However, many of the features that make leasing a cost-effective way to procure lift trucks and optimize operations can, if poorly managed, create even more problems.
ii. For example, the end of the lease term presents a great opportunity to reevaluate a fleet and upgrade to the latest equipment. On the other hand, it can also signal the beginning of unnecessary monthly renewals and penalties for overages.

Safety Feature: 12 Tips to keep your workers safe!
   OpTrain
Operating a forklift is an important job. The federal government requires that all lift truck operators be trained and authorized by their organizations. OSHA federal regulation CFR1910.178 states that "Only trained and authorized operators shall be permitted to operate a powered industrial truck." It is a good idea to print these forklift safety tips out and attach a copy by the steering wheel of each forklift.

  1. Watch where you place your hands and feet. Be aware of and stay clear of pinch points such as the wheels and lift gears.
  2. Stay under the overhead guard. Keep your hands and feet inside the forklift.
  3. If your truck starts to tip over, DON'T JUMP! Stay in your seat, grip the wheel securely and brace yourself with your feet.
  4. Always look out for others when moving and operating your forklift.
  5. When operating the forklift watch out for pedestrians, blind intersections and drive slowly.
  6. When the forks are raised, never walk or stand under them.
  7. Do not allow anyone to ride with you on lift unless it is made for more than one person. Forklifts are not elevators. Do not lift anyone unless you are using a special basket.
  8. Fluids from a forklift can leak out overnight on the area where you park it and make the surface slick. Check for fluids when you get on and off a forklift to prevent a slip and fall. Absorbent mats are available to park forklifts on and will absorb any leaks.
  9. Do not let unauthorized persons operate your forklift and remove the key when unattended.
  10. Use your horn when backing up, at intersections, when going through doors and anywhere you have limited or blocked vision.
  11. Use your seat belt and check that the warning lights and backup alarm work before operating the machine.
  12. Remember that you are the most important safety device on a forklift.

Rental Feature:   5 Reasons you SHOULD rent a forklift

Renting a forklift can help you in many ways. Whether they be mechanical, electric or manual, they are indispensable machines when heavy weight lifting is concerned. Be it indoors or outdoors, sunny or rainy, these machines are designed to adapt to your working environment. Forklifts are easily rented from any heavy equipment rental shops. Depending upon the rental shop, forklift rental schemes could be in a per-hour basis or whole-day package. But whatever the scheme may be or the rental price, forklifts are extremely useful.

Here are Five Good Reasons Why You Should Rent a Forklift:

  • They make your job easier. Compared to manual lifting, forklifts can carry many loads at one time. With these machines, you do not need to hire many laborers to carry the loads. You only need to hire an experienced forklift operator and other necessary personnel for operations.
  • They make you work more efficiently. Finishing a task just for the sake of finishing it is only half-done. Nothing is more satisfying than to see your tasks done efficiently. Efficiency is completing the job correctly in a lesser time expected, and renting a forklift will make you achieve this.
  • They help you conserve time. Wise men say that time is gold. If so, then it pays to save it - rent a forklift. You can cut down drastically travel time from the storage facility to the cargo truck. With rental equipment, you can finish loading, unloading or transferring your goods from one place to another in the earliest possible time. This makes you free to focus your much needed attention to business administration or to other important chores.
  • They can lift many objects at one time. Unlike manual lifting, forklifts can carry many items in one setting. You only need to arrange them on the platform carefully and have the forklifts do the job in lifting and transporting the items. These machines are so well-designed that some of these can carry as much as 35,000 tons, depending on their size and purpose.
  • They are cheaper to be rented rather than bought. If your business does not require daily heavy material handling, then renting a forklift is more practical than owning one. There is absolutely no maintenance job on your part. There is no storage problem, either. When you are done, you just return the unit until the next time you need it.
