ii. In addition to the existing black Non-Cinch Seat Belt, Yale is now offering a red High-Visibility Non-Cinch Seat Belt. The bold red color of the new belt promotes increased operator use by allowing others to identify whether the driver is using their seat belt from a distance. Seat belts are an important component of the operator restraint system. All Yale Non-Cinch Seat Belts feature Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) mechanisms, which allow the belt to move in and out freely with the operator's movements for optimum comfort. The Non- Cinch Seat Belt will automatically lock, keeping the operator in the seat in the event of truck instability or impact. This feature is especially beneficial for operators who drive trucks frequently in reverse.

Service Feature: Mast Chain Wear
Your mast chains do the heavy lifting on your forklift...Are they safe?
Why do we measure leaf chain for wear?
i.When forklift truck leaf chain is in its original condition, the rivet pins and articulating link apertures are almost perfectly cylindrical and, more typically in good quality leaf chains, they have very good surface finishes. This desirable condition produces leaf chain with excellent bearing properties that give rise to smooth, quiet and efficient operation. As the forklift truck chain inevitably wears, however, these conditions deteriorate with the leaf chain rivet pins wearing (known as Galling) where they become castellated as shown in the picture to the left.
ii.As a forklift truck chain wears the apertures in the linkplates also become elongated as shown in the adjacent picture of a rusty leaf chain linkplate. The vast majority of leaf chain rivet pins are manufactured with a case hardened outer surface. It is generally accepted that a 3% worn leaf chain will lose approximately 18% of its tensile strength. As forklift truck chain pins continue to wear the castellations become so deep that the case hardening of the leaf chain rivet pin will be completely destroyed. Once this case hardened surface is worn away the leaf chain will rapidly wear and become a lot weaker and therefore very dangerous. It is for this reason that there is a need to limit the amount of leaf chain wear that will be acceptable. The FB professional chain wear gauge (CWG) is a precision tool that can accurately measure the amount of wear in forklift truck chain/ leaf chain. The instructions that accompany this leaf chain wear gauge state that at 2% wear the leaf chain will need careful monitoring for continued use. At a level of 3% wear the leaf chain must be removed from service for the safety of all concerned.
iii.Our Service Technicians use the chain wear gauge from FB, the most professional chain elongation measuring tool available for the measurement of chain wear on imperial pitch leaf chain, forklift chain and roller chain. The FB chain gauge is the most accurate way to measure chain wear and is widely used for the thorough examination of lifting equipment in the LOLER and PUWER regulations. Because we inspect your lifting equipment, with leaf chain fitted, the FB chain gauge is what is in our toolbox.

Rental Feature: Renting, What do I need to know?
What do you need to know when renting a forklift?
A rental requirement for a lift truck can be immediate or planned. Immediate needs can occur due to broken equipment, seasonal needs, or unexpected demand while planned needs are usually a result of bidding, contractual projects. For immediate needs, short-term projects and specialty lifts, the solution is renting. Forklifts can be rented daily, weekly, by 4 week periods or monthly to meet your specific circumstance. Now, what do you need to know? Be aware of factors such as who is responsible for the maintenance, rental truck availability and other concerns.
The requirements to rent from a forklift dealership, who typically rents for the purposes of industrial or commercial use, include having a one million dollar liability insurance policy and completing the credit application process. Once approved, the rate of the rental will depend upon the rented timeframe of the lift.
1. General maintenance is included in this rate; however, you may incur variable maintenance and damage costs while the rental is in your possession. Variable maintenance costs are expected costs including: fuel or the need of a specialized attachment. If operator abuse or unexpected incidents happen to the forklift while in your possession, you may be held liable and obligated to cover the cost of the damages to the forklift. Scratches on forklifts, torn seats, knocked off lights and cut tires are the most common damage cost incurred but can be avoided with cautious and trained operators and pedestrians.
2. Availability is being able to get what you need when you need it. Availability of forklifts will differ from dealership to dealership, but typically the machinery can be received within an hour to a week of the request. Many will carry brand specific forklifts and much of a company's rent fleet will be shared among various branch locations. A significant portion of availability will depend largely on utilization - the percentage of available lifts versus what is currently being rented. It is not uncommon for a dealership to have 80% of its rental fleet rented at any given time. If the piece of equipment you need is in the 80% that is currently on rental, it can take up to a week to locate that piece of equipment from another branch location and deliver it to you.
3. When considering renting from a dealership or a rental company, know that all forklift equipment is not maintained the same. The age of the equipment, the maintenance of the fleet, and whether the rental forklift is "rent ready" will contribute to the overall rental experience. As a forklift ages, it becomes less ergonomic for the operator, reducing productivity. A well maintained forklift will be "rent ready", ensuring an unlikely probability that issues will occur and the forklift will be in optimal operating condition for the entire stint of your rental agreement.
