OS030EFYale Materials Handling Corporation Launches New Order Selector Series

Yale Materials Handling Corporation has launched a new series of AC-powered order selectors with lifting capacities of 1,500 to 3,000 lbs. The new series includes a heavy duty counterbalanced OS030BF, standard duty counterbalanced OS03EF, straddle selector SS030BF and furniture selector FS030BF, to meet your demanding applications.

"The new order selector series offers intelligently applied technology like Smart-Glide, a continuous height-sensing system that optimizes the maximum travel speed at various fork heights by providing step-less speed control," said Lou Micheletto, warehouse product manager. "This technology leads to faster travel speeds, improved acceleration and increased productivity."

The spacious, ergonomically designed operator's compartment maximizes productivity and minimizes fatigue while the mast offers excellent visibility. The compartment has a low step height, wide-cushioned floor, and a foot switch position that promotes a natural stance. The pallet clamp automatically centers and grips pallets enabling fast, easy order picking that saves you time.

Parts Feature:  Digital Tilt Indicator

No more product damage from forks being tilted when operator thought they were level

We have two models of Forklift Mast Tilt Indicators to choose from to best match you application and budget.

i.      Cascade's Digital Tilt Indicator works on virtually any lift truck. This visual aid lets the operator know when the mast is tilted forward, backwards or true vertical. The sensitivity of the Digital Tilt Indicator is precise to within 1°. It clearly displays the angle of the mast at all times which eliminates guesswork and ultimately reduces damage and increases speed and efficiency.

ii.      Accu-Tilt - Fork Tilt Level Indicator for forklifts and lift trucks

1.        Accu-Tilt is a Fork Tilt Level Indicator that is made for all makes and models of forklifts and lift trucks. The incorrect tilt angle of a lift truck's forks is the leading cause of both racking and product damage. Even the most experienced operator has difficulty judging the tilt of the forklifts forks when he is entering pallets high on the rack. The Accu-Tilt shows the operator the level of the forks at all times thereby reducing potential damage by piercing product or racking and increasing productivity by eliminating the guess work. Additionally, the Accu-Tilt's Fork Tilt Level Indicator will also indicate to the operator the correct fork angle to travel with a load as well as parking the lift truck.

a.        Reduce product damage

b.       Reduce rack damage

c.        Reduce pallet damage

d.       Increase productivity

The Accu-Tilt's Fork Tilt Level Indicator installs in less than one minute.

Service Feature:   Battery Recycling

Get rid of old Industrial Batteries sitting in your yard or plant

We can come pick up your Lead Acid Batteries and dispose of them properly at no charge to you. After we bring your old battery we send large quantities of industrial batteries to the recycling center. There, the battery is broken apart in a hammer mill; a machine that hammers the battery into pieces. The broken battery pieces are then placed into a vat, where the lead and heavy materials fall to the bottom and the plastic floats. At this point, the polypropylene pieces are scooped away and the liquids are drawn off, leaving the lead and heavy metals. Each of the materials goes into a different recycling "stream".

- Plastic - Polypropylene pieces are washed, blown dry, and sent to a plastic recycler where the pieces are melted together into an almost liquid state. The molten plastic is put through an extruder that produces small plastic pellets of a uniform size. The pellets are sold to a manufacturer of battery cases and the process begins again.

- Lead - Lead grids, lead oxide, and other lead parts are cleaned and heated within smelting furnaces. The molten melted lead is then poured into ingot molds. After a few minutes, the impurities float to the top of the still molten lead in the ingot molds. These impurities are scraped away and the ingots are left to cool. When the ingots are cool, they're removed from the molds and sent to battery manufacturers, where they're re-melted and used in the production of new batteries.

- Sulfuric Acid - Old battery acid can be handled in two ways: 1) The acid is neutralized with an industrial compound similar to household baking soda. Neutralization turns the acid into water. The water is then treated, cleaned, tested in a waste water treatment plant to be sure it meets clean water standards. 2) The acid is processed and converted to sodium sulfate, an odorless white powder that's used in laundry detergent, glass, and textile manufacturing.

Safety Feature:   7 Tips for Effective Forklift Safety Training

An effective driver training program is critical to a safe,

efficient, and legal DC operation. Here's a look at what's involved.

It might be said that lift trucks, so essential to distribution center operations, are only as safe and productive as their operators. But how can you ensure your drivers are competent to operate a forklift safely? What sort of training should you provide?

At a minimum, any training program has to meet federal requirements. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations specify what topics must be covered by a driver training program (essentially, a blend of "how-to" operating basics and safety information tailored to the specific site). They also touch on how that instruction should be provided and when employers must send drivers for refresher training.

As for who can provide that instruction, training is available from a variety of sources-packaged training programs, training from dealers and third-party consultants, and in-house instructional programs. But even if it hires an outside party, the employer itself is ultimately responsible for ensuring its drivers receive proper training. Lift truck training specialists say there are a number of steps companies can take to assure they're offering a sound program.

Here are just a few pointers:

1.        Check the credentials.

2.        Start with site visit.

3.        Ensure the program is thorough.

4.        Provide time for classroom instruction.

5.        Provide the time, space, and vehicles for hands-on training.

6.        Evaluate and certify.

7.        Train pedestrians, too.
