E. D. Farrell Co., Inc. Monthly Newsletter October Edition |
|
|
Over the next few months we'd like to take the opportunity to introduce you to our staff so that you'll have a face to associate with the voice on the phone. This month's feature will be our Parts Managers, Ron, Phil & Jesse.
Ron Kaiser - Parts Manager West Seneca - Two Years - While only being a part of the E. D. Farrell Team for two years, Ron has shown drive and desire to provide excellent customer service and support. Beginning in our shipping receiving position, Ron was able to apply and move up to our Parts Manager position when our previous manager retired. He's taken on the role with gusto and continues to learn and develop as he goes.
Phil Troutman - Parts Manager Jamestown- Fourteen Years - Phil has been a cornerstone of operations in the Jamestown branch, providing excellent customer service to our southern tier customers. Whether it be choosing between new and rebuilt parts, or what type of tires to install on their forklifts, our customers have come to rely on and trust the judgment of Phil's experience.
Jesse Castorena - Parts Manager Erie - One Year - Although still somewhat new to E. D. Farrell Co., Inc., Jesse has taken to the job like a fish to water and has been providing excellent support to our Western Pennsylvania customers. He has shown a great desire to get on the phone with our existing customers and see if he can help them with any needs before they call him, as well as to get to know his customer base.
One thing that you'll find with our Parts Managers is that they will always provide you with the options you need to manage your parts in a cost effective manner while keeping your fleet up to speed! |

Parts Feature: Safety Backup Alarms
A sound Solution in Reversing Safety!
Without an Alarm, serious injury could happen in this scenario!
Because of their size and the difficulty of maintaining visual contact with on-foot workers, forklifts in plants can be a threat, especially when backing up.[7] Mirrors and back-up alarms provide some level of protection, and having a spotter working with the driver also decreases back-up injuries and fatalities.
Backup alarms are installed on forklift trucks because they provide notice to a worker that a forklift is in close or immediate proximity. If they worked perfectly--and they don't--they might prevent as many as 20 deaths per year from pedestrian-forklift accidents and reduce injuries by seven thousand or more. Forklift alarms cannot be used in every situation, but given careful analysis, the device can reduce management costs without the need to rely exclusively on the operator to sound the horn or the supervisor to supervise the operator. In the best sense, backup alarms can help make up for the human shortcomings of operators, supervisors, and pedestrians. If the ambient sound level in an area is too great or the physical dimension of the work site is too small, forklift alarms are ineffective. In every case, it is important to use additional intelligent management practices like assigning spotters, establishing workstation isolation, and setting restrictive corridors that are protected from moving vehicles.

Safety Feature: 12 Forklift Driver Safety Tips

Operating a forklift is an important job. The federal government requires that all lift truck operators be trained and authorized by their organizations. OSHA federal regulation CFR1910.178 states that "Only trained and authorized operators shall be permitted to operate a powered industrial truck." It is a good idea to print these forklift saftey tips out and attach a copy by the steering wheel of each forklift.
1) Watch where you place your hands and feet. Be aware of and stay clear of pinch points such as the wheels and lift gears. 2) Stay under the overhead guard. Keep your hands and feet inside the forklift. 3) If your truck starts to tip over, DON'T JUMP! Stay in your seat, grip the wheel securely and brace yourself with your feet. 4) Always look out for others when moving and operating your forklift. 5) When operating the forklift watch out for pedestrians, blind intersections and drive slowly. 6) When the forks are raised, never walk or stand under them. 7) Do not allow anyone to ride with you on lift unless it is made for more then one person. Forklifts are not elevators. Do not lift anyone unless you are using a special basket. Fluids from a forklift can leak out overnight on the area where you park it and make the surface slick. Check for fluids when you get on and off a forklift to prevent a slip and fall. Absorbent mats are available to park forklifts on and will absorb any leaks. 9) Do not let unauthorized persons operate your forklift and remove the key when unattended. 10) Use your horn when backing up, at intersections, when going through doors and anywhere you have limited or blocked vision. 11) Use you seat belt and check that the warning lights and backup alarm work before operating the machine. 12) Remember that you are the most important safety device on a forklift.
