December Edition
To Our Valued Customers,

Only a couple of short days after Christmas, we all are hurrying to finish our holiday returns and New Year's Eve party preparations.  This time of year can be hectic and crazy on a good day, but after all of the commotion has settled we look back at the holidays, and the year, to see what we've accomplished.

We, at E. D. Farrell Company, are proud to look back and acknowledge the completion of our 76th year.  For all of those years we have successfully delivered the Yale forklift line to our customers and have also been a valuable resource to our customers for all of their material handling needs.

We wish you all a happy holiday and a new year, and
eagerly wait to see what the 77th year brings for us!

Parts Feature:  Bearing Failure

Are you finding your bearings to fail too often?  Not sure why?

Here are some key points of proper bearing maintenance:
  1. Handle bearings carefully - bearings are precision parts and small nicks and cracks will impair performance or cause failure.
  2. Make sure housing and shaft are in good shape before installing bearing.  Use emery paper to remove nicks and burs, then wipe with clean cloth.
  3. Use Proper tools for installing.
  4. Do not wash bearings - they are packed in grease which you do not want to wash away.
  5. Keep lubricated.
  6. Avoid Overheating.
  7. Keep an eye out for noise, vibration or too much heat.

Take a look at this free brochure on the assessment of Bearing Failures.

Service Feature:  Aperture Tires

Do you find yourself losing uptime and productivity with air pneumatic tires?  Tired of waiting for the curing time of foam filled tires?  Take a look at Solideal's Aperture Tires and be finished with the headaches.

Aperture Tire

Aperture solid tires can help by reducing tire weight and also providing a softer ride with less impact on your drivers.  They are puncture proof and blowout proof.

Safety Feature: Shut Down Procedure

Are you sure that you shut down your forklift in the proper and safe way when you last left it?  Your forklift is your responsibility until it is properly returned and shut down at the end of a shift.

If you answered anything other than yes to the above question, take a look at our list of proper shut down musts.

At the end of your shift:

  • Return truck to proper area.
  •  Put directional lever in neutral.
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Completely lower the forks.
  • Put the mast in the full vertical position.
  • Turn off the truck.
  • Take the key and return it to its proper place.

Shut down inspection:

  • Check for physical damage.
  • Check all hydraulic hoses.
  • Check floor for fluid leaks.
  • Check tires for damage.
  • Report all Problems to your supervisor.

If you are still uncertain about the proper shut down techniques, please contact your supervisor regarding further operator training.
