Safety Feature - Loading Docks
Have you ever been around or involved in a near miss or actual accident at the loading dock area? These are high traffic areas for some companies that pose a serious safety risk. By following the suggested ideas below you can effectively minimize your chances of an accident on your loading docks.
 - Make sure the wheels of the trailer are chocked.
- Have the driver make sure the brakes of the trailer are locked.
- Make sure the nose end-supports are lowered.
- Check that the tandem wheels are in the full back position or make sure the rear of the trailer is supported.
- Check the floor capacity of the trailer and the dockboard and their condition.
- Make sure the dockboard is secured to the truck.
- Make sure the loading dock grabs the trailer ICC bar (not in all loading docks - ask your supervisor)
- Position lights in the trailer for best visibility.
- Make sure your lift truck has the right mast for use in a trailer. If not, when you raise the mast it may go through the roof of the trailer!
- Keep away from the edges of the dock.
