Kissin' Cousins --
Buster and Mercy
say good-bye

Mama cow Sil and her baby Buster returned to Local Farm in April. Buster's official name is "Sherlock", and mom and son are both enjoying the change in scenery.
Dear friends,

The land has caught up with the calendar and Spring is here! Lovely 60+º days, the sun seems to be moving rapidly northward, and everything is bursting into bloom. The city is about a week and a half ahead of the farm, and it is delightful to travel between the two -- a little like having a crystal ball.

We hope you all are experiencing the excitement and joy of vibrant new life, wherever you are.

Associates Update
Leslie, CHS

The City Sisters are "on the road again," leading retreats, quiet days and offering spiritual direction.

In mid-February Sr. Faith Margaret was in Athens Ohio, doing spiritual direction. The Associates also gathered for a pot-luck supper and shared  fellowship.

Sr. Leslie and new Associate Vira Melendez-Redman
of Spokane WA
Sr. Leslie was in Dallas from February 26 - March 3.  She talked about the Community and following a rule of life at two parish programs: St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where a group of about 40 or so folk participated in a lively discussion, and a large gathering followed the next day at St. Dunstan's in Mineola, where she spoke with the Daughters of the King. The Associate Retreat at Montserrat was very well attended and Sarah Long ad Suzie Fogg were received as Associates.

Sr. Leslie was also in Mystic, CT March 14 - 17, where she led a group of seventeed in a Lenten Quiet Morning on Saturday. The morning event was in the home of our Associates Pam and George Allen. A lovely setting for spiritual direction was made available in the old boat house on the property, and the day concluded with the celebration of the Eucharist. On Sunday she spoke at the Adult Forum at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with a lively discussion that included questions such as:  What is it like to live in an intentional community of faith?  How does a rule of life affect one's relationships with God and with others in such communities?

Further events---
  • Sr. Claire Joy will be leading the Oregon Retreat April 26-28
  • Sr. Leslie will be at the Immaculate Heart Retreat Center from April 19-21
  • Sr. Leslie will be at the Dumas Bay Retreat Center (Seattle/Tacoma) from May 3 - 5.  In between she will be doing various church programs across the state and on Lopez Island.

If you are interested in attending any of these events, please contact Sr. Leslie. Attendance is not Associates; all are welcome.  "Come and see"--  and bring a friend!

Paradise Beneath Her Feet: How Women are Transforming the Middle East
Isolbel Coleman 2012

A fascinating and enlightening study of the intricate relationship among politics, religion, education, business and society in the Muslim world.  This is a book to buy and keep, a single reading will not do it justice.

Isobel Coleman knows the area, the people, particularly the women, of whom she writes with empathy and candor.  She provides background that escapes the reporting of our newspapers, making the complicated problems of the area more understandable, especially as they relate to the place of women in society.

Change is occurring and will continue to occur, with women in each of the countries leading the way.  They want and need our understanding at least as much as our support. I strongly urge everyone to read this book.
All Gone

We've reached the end of last year's tomatoes. On Saturday we cooked up the last of the harvest to make pizza sauce. These were a variety of mostly yellow tomatoes--very tasty, and a new look for pizza!
