I bet you didn't know...

Spaying or neutering prevents unplanned puppies, but did you know how many
If not fixed, a male, female, and their puppies can produce 66,000 dogs in just
6 years!  That's a lot of kibble!

Greyhounds can run up to 45 mph.

A dog's nose print is as distinctive as a human fingerprint.

Dogs have no concept of time.  It makes it easy to understand how they think they just got to the dog park, doesn't it?

Puppies sleep 90% of the day for the first few weeks after birth.  Cuddles, anyone?

A dog's nose is its internal cooling system.  The longer the nose, the more efficient the cooling system.

The Ancient Chinese carried Pekingese puppies in the sleeves of their robes.  That's royal treatment!

I Always Wondered About That...

Poodles are an amazing breed.  They're smart, playful, and terrific athletes.  Did you ever wonder why they have those fancy haircuts?  The reasons may surprise you.

While the Poodle may have originated in Germany, it's considered the National dog of France.  It's name came from the German "Pudel," which means, "to splash in the water."  Known as the "Caniche" - or duck dog -  in France, this dog was bred to help humans retrieve their prey from the water during the hunt.

Poodles come in three sizes: Toy, Miniature, and Standard, but no matter the size, they all have specific physical characteristics.  For example:
  • They have dark, oval eyes - not eyes that protrude.  Why?  Because protruding eyes could get damaged while working in marsh grasses or rough water.
  • The muzzle is streamlined for a reason - like the bow of a boat to help him get through reeds and help with diving.
  • His muzzle is also strong and tight-lipped to help prevent choking or drowning while retrieving birds from the water.

And that hairstyle?  It's thought that the poufs and pompoms help with buoyancy.  They can also protect tender joints from injury.  They may also keep vital organs warm in cold water.  All in all, the Poodle is more than a pretty face - he's an amazing companion and helper.
