October is Breast Cancer
Awareness Month
Paragon has joined the fight against breast cancer. For the entire month of October, you can help us by making a donation to Passionately Pink for the Cure. All proceeds will be donated to help those in the struggle against breast cancer.
We've made it easy to participate:
- Donate at Paragon
- Pens - $1.00
- Pet bandanas - $2.00
- You can even choose to simply provide a cash donation. You will receive a ribbon that you can dedicate to someone you know that has been impacted by cancer to be displayed in our entryway.
- Donate online
Join the Pink Ninja Team and help us reach our goal of $250.00 by the end of October. Together, we CAN make a difference!

Halloween Tips for You and Your Pet
Halloween decorations such as pumpkins and decorative corn are relatively nontoxic, but they can upset tummies in pets who nibble on them. Take a close look at your pet's costume before the big day. Remove any small, dangling, or easily chewed-off pieces to prevent choking.
Make sure costumes fit properly. Anything that can get twisted or snared can lead to injury.
Please make sure your dog or cat has proper identification. If for any reason your pet escapes and becomes lost, a collar and tags and/or a microchip can be a lifesaver, increasing the chances that he or she will be returned to you.

Grooming Tip of the Month
They're back! Fleas have definitely been making their presence known, lately. These pests can bite 400 times a day - that means that if your pet only has 10 fleas, she can be bitten 4,000 times a day!
We can help by giving your pet a flea bath that will eliminate the pests in her coat. If we see even one, we will call to let you know what we've found and take proper action. If you see your pet scratching or chewing, check for little red bumps and specks of flea dirt near the skin. Fleas are brown and flattened from side to side. If you see them, call us so we can help.
Once the problem has been corrected on the pet, it's time to correct the environment so the problem doesn't reverse itself. Here's what you can do:
- Vacuum thoroughly, including under furniture and where your pet sleeps. Empty the canister/remove the bag outside and away from the house to prevent them from coming back inside. Clean the vacuum.
- Use foggers, dusts, sprays, or powders to kill any remaining fleas in the house.
- Wash all pet bedding.
- Don't forget to treat your car, pet carrier, garage, or any place your pet spends any time.
- Make sure your pet is on a flea preventative. Your vet can usually make the best recommendation for which one is best. Some are even available at local pet stores. Flea collars are generally ineffective.
- Fleas like warm, moist, and shady environments. Remove lawn debris and treat your yard to a preventative that can be spread like fertilizer.
As the weather cools, fleas will look for hosts to spend the winter months. By following these tips, you can reduce the chances that your pet will become a walking condominium for a Fall Flea Party!
