Welcome to SmallCorp News, our bi-monthly effort to stay in touch and share some of the valuable tips and information we've accumulated in our 40-plus years of manufacturing museum-quality display cases and picture frames.

If you find the newsletter useful, please feel free to pass it along to a colleague who might benefit from it, and if you have suggestions on improvements or future topics, don't hesitate to let me know.

Thank you again for your association with SmallCorp, we couldn't do it without you.

Framers Love...

...our candybox frames. They look like a frame but act like a case. There's a powdercoated inner floater frame, to which your art is attached.  The powdercoated aluminum outer frame captures the inner frame and the glazing, and screws to poplar blocking affixed to the outside of the floater frame.

Candybox frames are priced by quotation only. Call us for details.

NEMA in Newport

Thank you to everyone who stopped by booth #5 to visit Mike and Wendy at last week's annual New England Museum Association Conference in Newport, RI. It was great to see you, and, as always, thank you for your support.

Why Museums Matter

There were many useful sessions and a wonderful keynote address by Dr. Roger Mandle, an internationally-known museum professional whose career postings range from Rhode Island to Qatar.   Links to  many of the sessions and handouts can be found here.

Look forward to seeing you next fall in Cambridge.

Did  You Know?

Not only we do we sell complete exhibit cases,  we can also supply the component parts you need. That is, we'd be glad to make you a new vitrine, or a new deck for your existing case.  This came up a number of times at the NEMA conference and we wanted to make it clear to everyone that ordering specific elements of the case is just fine. We'd be glad to help.

Remembering JFK

A collection of objects from the funeral of President John F. Kennedy that have never been on exhibit is on display in Boston. The new exhibit "A Nation Remembers" opened Friday at the JFK Presidential Library; the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the 35th President. We're pleased to have made a case for the exhibit.

Bringin' Home the Bacon

Francis Bacon's triptych of friend and fellow painter, Three Studies of Lucian Freud, hit a world record for an artwork to be sold at auction. Selling at  $152.6 million ($US142m /£89.3m) to private client via the phone, the hammer fell in just under ten minutes. The painting was sold at $57 million over its estimate, an auctioneer's dream sale.

Looted Art - Finding its Way Home?

The discovery early this month of nearly 1,500 paintings including works by Picasso and Matisse in a rubbish-strewn flat in Germany  shocked the art world.
Hundreds of the modernist masterpieces are believed to have been stolen by the Nazis from Jewish collectors or seized as part of crackdowns on "degenerate art".

"I think it's the biggest single find of Holocaust pictures that there's been for years, but it's still a tiny fraction of the total number of pictures that we're looking for," Julian Radcliffe, chairman of the London-based Art Loss Register, which runs an international database of stolen and missing works, told AFP.
