Food for Thought
What will happen to the collection at The Detroit Institute of Arts?
Should the city sell its valuable art treasures to reduce its debt? What happens in Detroit could set a precedent for other cities facing financial crises.

Blowing our own Horn
We recently delivered an archival exhibit case outfitted with LED lighting to Massachusetts General Hospital, to house the institution's 2,500 year old mummy, Padihershef. The mummy is one of the oldest in the United States; it was given to the hospital in 1823.
Before moving Padihershef into his new home in the Ether Dome, a surgical amphitheater where the first public surgery using anesthetic was performed in 1846, conservators gave him a minor cleaning and a "facelift". They also made an unexpected discovery.
Also in Boston, we recently delivered several cases to the Old State House for an exhibit hosted by The Bostonian Society, which includes the historic and highly-sensitive 1763 Treaty of Paris on loan from the French government.
The Treaty case uses SPD SmartGlass technology, which darkens the glass when visitors are not present, and lightens it for viewing with the push of a button. Even with LED spotlights, the case will dramatically reduce the amount of light to which the document is exposed.
