Recently, I attended the annual International Steel Conference, which was held in Orlando, Florida from April 14-15. My colleagues from all over the world gathered together to do business, network, learn and enjoy the beautiful city of Orlando.
During my trip, I was able to attend 10 hours of presentations on various topics covering the design and construction of steel structures. I walked through the massive exhibition hall every day. It was amazing to see how the steel industry is able to utilize new technologies and share the knowledge.
My main take away, however, is learning about the advancement of modeling software in streamlining the entire design and construction process. We are now able to integrate the design, detailing, fabrication and erection of steel structures in ways that were not possible before.
Attending the conference was refreshing, invigorating and rewarding. I learned, had some fun and gained enough hours to renew my engineering license for the next two years.
Best regards,

Delay Towers at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas
|
These magnificent delay towers were designed by THOMAD Engineering for temporary use during the Rock in Rio music festival that came to Las Vegas for the first time last year. Everyone was so impressed by their beauty that the owners moved them to a new permanent home. The tubular towers now adorn the Toshiba Plaza which leads to the new T-Mobile Arena.
THOMAD Engineering was retained to review the original design and analyze the frames for their re-purposed use and adaptation to the new site.
