STRUCTURAL MOMENTS...

For the past 25 years, we have dedicated our practice to a single specialty: providing structural engineering design and consulting services for architectural building projects. Remaining sharply focused on that unique niche has given us the deep expertise to greatly benefit our clients and their projects.

In addition to designing structures for high performance under natural and occupant loads, our specialization allows us, for instance, to incorporate flexibility in the structural design in order for a space to be adaptable for use by different tenants in the future. The project featured below is an excellent example in that regard.

The same is true for other engineering disciplines, architecture and construction. The expertise and wisdom of a specialized professional will give owners a lifetime return for their investment. Consider the following attributes when selecting your project team member firms:
  • Core specialty with depth and breadth
  • Commitment to responsive and proactive client service
  • Team players who check out their ego at the door
  • Adequate support staff and resources
  • Local experience base with deep roots in the community
Passion is a key ingredient to be truly successful in anything we do. We, at THOMAD Engineering, love what we do and get a huge sense of pride and accomplishment when we help our clients make their projects become a successful reality.

Focus on: Long Span Structural Systems

Long-span structures provide unobstructed, column-free interior space for a variety of functions and activities where visibility and flexibility are essential. Examples of structures that require these special design and construction elements include: convention centers, stadiums and arenas.

Long-span structures demand close attention to unbalanced design loads such as wind pressures, snow drifts, suspended rigging loads and construction material loads. Construction becomes complex and can significantly impact the entire project cost and schedule. We know how to select the most appropriate long-span structural system from a variety of available choices and collaborate with other expert design and construction professionals.

Framing concepts, construction sequences, fabrication processes and erection methods are essential relationships which must be thoroughly understood to achieve economic value in any project, long-span structures in particular.

Knowledge of structural forms, fabrication, and erection methods will significantly impact construction costs and schedules. Our experience in the structural engineering of long-spans has enabled us to assist the rest of the design and construction teams to deliver successful projects such as the MGM Grand Convention Center, featured below.
