Brownbag on the "Joe Dome" Project
On February 25th the TIDES Africa Initiative hosted a brownbag on the Village of Hope Joe Dome project. The "Joe Dome" project is a collaborative effort between the African Women Economic Consortium (AWEC) and Pleasant Valley Energy LLC. The goal of this project is to build sustainable alternative energy villages all over Africa to improve the standard of living in the communities. The project also seeks to create a housing environment that will help people in Nkporo village and beyond, to grow food locally, and market the products they grow so they will become self-sufficient.

American Red Cross: Emerging Technology for Emerging Needs
The American Red Cross has been transitioning its focus from dialogue about emerging technology to experiments that harness their potential to strengthen urban resilience. Its capstone report from the initiative's first phase is available online - A Vision for the Humanitarian Use of Emerging Technology for Emerging Needs. The 36-page report reviews the global dialogue series organized by the American Red Cross and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, defines its Eight Criteria for Resilience-Strengthening Solutions, announces its plans to test four experimental technologies with partners this year, and makes five key recommendations based on community-level requests and humanitarian expertise The report is available at http://tech4resilience.blogspot.com/
TIDES on the Road
Nelly Mobula briefing SOCOM on TIDES
Last month TIDES exhibited at the 26th Annual SO/LIC Symposium & Exhibition in Washington, DC.
The mission of the SO/LIC Division is to assist industry, government and the public in understanding the critical role of special operations (SO) and low intensity conflict (LIC) forces in our national security strategy and how these forces are integrated within our national military structure. TIDES showcased a variety of low-cost, commercial off the shelf equipment from the STAR-TIDES Network.

Dr. and Mrs. Wells at AFCEA West
While the TIDES team was unable to exhibit at this year's AFCEA West show in San Diego, Dr. Linton Wells (founder of TIDES) and his wife Linda attended the conference and helped spread the word about TIDES.
