Construction Updates
W. Superior is closed to through traffic until mid-October due to underground utility work, street lighting, new sidewalk, and road re-construction.
Ely Street at Grafton is open to through traffic, but Grafton from Ely south to Hawley Lane is still closed due to the replacement of the sanitary sewer main. Grafton is expected to be opened around the second week of June.
Argyle and Orchard Street (from Charles to Argyle) will be closed beginning June 1st due to road construction. The sanitary sewer will be replaced on Argyle and storm sewer interceptor drains will be installed. Both streets will get a new road base and asphalt surface with spot curb repair. New sidewalks will be constructed on Argyle and Orchard. The project should be completed around mid-July.
Slater Street will be under construction from about mid-July through September. The road will have the sanitary sewer and storm sewer replacement, as well as storm sewer interceptor lines installed. Slater will have new curb and gutter and an asphalt surface.

The pink arrows point toward the sidewalks that either will need to be replaced or removed. The City shares with the home owners the cost for construction 50-50. For more information or to potentially add your sidewalks to the repair list, call either Dave Ringle or Kristine Saia at (989) 463-8346. |

DART New Priority Service
The Alma Transit Center is introducing a new Priority Service schedule, running daily from 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Here's why prioritizing works:
Public transit must serve ALL the public better on more efficient, time-grouped routes. Since all of you are equally important to us, priorities will be set as follows:
- Your planning ahead will help everyone. Rides may be booked up to 60 days ahead.
- It is wasteful to use large buses like they are taxis for 1 or 2 riders at a time.
- New time-set bus routes on the full and half-hours will carry more passengers per route.
- Since buses are on timed routes, we can't wait for you at your stop. We can, however, book you for the next available time, on an upcoming route.
- You will be given a 20 minute pick-up window, so we may arrive as much as 10 minutes before, to 10 minutes after your scheduled time. On arrival, to be fair to others, we can wait up to 3 minutes.
- All this is necessary due to the many variables of no-show customers, weather, construction, traffic & train delays, etc.
Now, here's how prioritizing works:
- First Priority
- Riders with standing orders that happen daily or weekly such as grocery, school or appointments. What can you schedule at the same time, daily or weekly?
- Second Priority
- Riders who call at least one hour or more in advance will be added into preset routes with our First Priority standing orders.
- First Priority
- Third Priority
- Riders who call less than one hour in advance will be fit into a current or upcoming route, as soon as possible, based on our First and Second Priority riders.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact the DART staff at 463-6016.

Emergency Address Signs
Is you address easily found on your home? In an emergency, can your home be found quickly?
Please be sure you have your address posted clearly on your home. This will allow emergency personnel to find your house more quickly.
There is also a program provided by The Commission on Aging that purchases and installs Emergency Address Signs for seniors who are homebound and have limited income.
If your home does not have an address sign or the address sign is worn or hard to see, call Gratiot County Commission on Aging at (989)875-5286 to find out if you qualify for a free emergency address sign.

Red Cross Blood Drives
Between tornadoes, sudden severe thunderstorms and hurricanes, we know Mother Nature can be unpredictable. As spring settles in, the American Red Cross encourages families to get prepared before an emergency occurs. One way you can be better prepared is to download the new Emergency App from the Red Cross. It's an all-encompassing app with over 35 customizable severe weather or other emergency alerts. The Emergency App is available for free in app stores for smartphones and tablets by searching Emergency, or by visiting redcross.org/apps
.
Another way to help your community be prepared for disasters is by maintaining a sufficient blood supply. It's the blood and platelets already on the shelves that help save lives in an emergency. Blood donors of all types - especially types O negative, A negative and B negative - are needed to help ensure blood is available for patients this spring.

Water Conservation Tips

Hydrant Flushing
During the summer months, the City of Alma regularly flushes fire hydrants throughout the city. Reside nts should avoid doing laundry during this time and allow water to run for a few minutes after hydrants have been flushed to remove any rust particles in the water. For a schedule of the hydrant flushing, please check the City's community calendar. If you experience problems, please call the Water Plant at 463-8349.
Dog Rules to Remember:
All dog owners walking their dog within the city limits must cleanup any feces left by their dogs. Dogs may not be allowed to run at large or howl or bark to the annoyance of others in the neighborhood.
Yard waste will be collected on your regular trash collection day and must be in paper bags, cardboard boxes and/or trash containers marked "yard waste". Tree limbs should be placed in piles, not bundled, with all stems lying in the same direction. To get the complete info on the yard waste program, follow this link.
Park Shelter Reservation Program
Alma has many beautiful parks throughout the city, some of which have shelters which you can reserve for your special events. Reservations are accepted through September 30 each year. You can check the Park Reservation calendar, download the reservation form and bring it to City Hall with the appropriate fee.
