Sanitary Sewer Project Construction of the sanitary sewer through the Alma Downtown area is scheduled to start again on June 3, 2013. The first phase of the project was completed last fall on State Street starting near the Secretary of State's office and extended north to Center Street and then west on Center to Prospect. In early June the second phase of the project will begin and the new sewer main will continue north along Prospect Avenue to Superior Street and then west along Superior Street to the intersection with Park Avenue. The new sewer will continue northward along Park to Downie and then along Downie westward to Wright Avenue. This new sanitary sewer will replace an old undersized sewer main that presently runs diagonally across a section of the City from the intersection of Park and Superior to State Street near the Railroad tracks. The existing sewer cannot be replaced in its present location because it runs under several buildings in the downtown area. Expected completion of the project is August 23, 2013. |
