Colorado Marijuana Law - time to adjust your health history questions!  
Now that your patients can legally access and use medical or recreational marijuana in Colorado, it is a good time to review and modify your patient health history questionnaire.  Consider including the following questions. Click here to read more.    
 
Bill Expanding Pediatric Dental Benefits Becomes Law    
HB 1053, a bill that ensures that pediatric dental benefit coverage is available in all plans purchased through the state healthcare exchange and in the private market, was signed by the governor today. Click here to read more.
 
Dental Sunset Review Bill Introduced 
On Jan. 30, HB 1227, the Sunset Review of the Dental Practice Act, was introduced before the state House of Representatives. This year, the laws that govern dentistry are reviewed and potentially revised. Many of CDA's priority recommendations, including CE and anesthesia updates, were included in the bill draft. Renew Your Dental License  
If you have not done so, please remember to renew your state dental license.  All Colorado dentist and dental hygienist licenses will expire on Feb. 28, 2014.  Dentists and dental hygienists are not permitted to practice dentistry without a current license. Click here to read more.    
 
Teledentistry, a Growing Trend  
The use of teledentistry is growing here and across the U.S.  At the end of January, legislation passed in California (73-1) promoting teledentistry and making it reimbursable through Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid program. Teledentistry has gained interest across a number of states including Colorado. Click here to read more.

Medicaid Adult Coverage Policy
The state Medicaid department recently published the first major proposal on the upcoming adult dental benefit. A draft coverage policy was shared with Take 5 participants in January for feedback. It was finalized late last week. Click here to read more.

State Board Meeting Update  
The CO State Board of Dental Examiners met on Jan. 23. The meeting focused on the Sunset Review. A new dentist and public member are expected to be appointed to the SBDE shortly. The SBDE plans to conduct rulemaking on opioid prescribing and licensure rules in April. Click here to read more.
