FIA's Annual Occupational Injury and Illness Survey/Report recorded a record number of participants this year, with 127 forging plants participating. We also saw the average industry DART Incident Rate, (Days Away, Restricted or Transferred Rate), decline from 4.85 in 2011, to 4.72 for 2012. While a small decline, definitely a step in the right direction!
The Annual Safety Awards, which will be handed out at FIA's Annual Meeting of Members, in May, are based on the reporting results from the Survey. Reporting plants are broken into four size categories: Up to 80 employees; 81 to 175 employees; 176 to 325 employees; and over 326 employees, ensuring that each plant is benchmarked against similar sized facilities.
First, second, third place and Most Improved Safety Awards are then given in each group for plants having the lowest Recordable Incidence Rate, in their size group, (note due to ties, there may be multiple winners for any given award).
