Message from the Executive Director

Dear Members and Friends,

This has been an exciting and busy first quarter for CBSR. The team has been working hard on fostering new and exciting partnerships with sustainability knowledge hubs, researchers, analysts, and service providers; building out a thoughtfully curated  events calendar for the year; and re-developing our website for easier access of information and greater member visibility.

Here is what's keeping us busy:
  • CBSR is proud to be included as a "Collaborating Organization" of the Global Initiative for Sustainability Ratings (GISR) CBSR will assist with outreach, events and network-building, as well as have an opportunity to input into the standard development process.
  • Our Events Calendar - until September 2013 - is now available. Click here to see our upcoming events and webinars. If you are interested in speaking, or sponsoring an event, please contact me at steven@cbsr.ca
  • CBSR's new brand and website will launch first week of April. Each member will have a unique member profile and an opportunity to share sustainability news, reports and initiatives. Watch for the announcement in your inbox next week!
  • In response to member requests for more opportunities to network with other practitioners, CBSR held an inaugural member networking event in Calgary hosted by Enmax and focused on integrating corporate values in the supply chain. Thank you to Enmax for your generous sponsorship and to all the members who attended this event.
  • CBSR's 2013 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on April 3rd. We will be announcing the new Board in early April
  • We've partnered with CBERN to host "The Research Directions" webinar series that will feature research presentations on business ethics issues from PhD students working in different disciplines at universities across Canada.
Join us this year as we help you build your knowledge, your capacity to collaborate across boundaries, and expand your networks as we collectively advance towards a sustainable future. I hope to see you at our upcoming events!

Warm regards,

Steven Fish
Executive Director, CBSR

Many of you have expressed a desire to further engage the rest of your organization in CSR and sustainability.

Sustainable Consumption - Engaging the Consumer in Fostering a Sustainable Economy

May 22, 12:45PM - 6:30 PM EST, (In-Person) Toronto

May 22, 1:00PM - 2:15PM (Webinar only)

Join CBSR on May 22, as GlobeScan, SustainAbility, and BBMG
present their recent study "Re-Thinking Consumption" to learn how "Aspirational" consumers are balancing social and environmental values with material desires to shape the future of sustainability.

How do we bring the consumer's voice into the sustainability conversation and help them be part of the solution as companies work to accelerate and grow a more sustainable economy? And how do companies create solutions that resonate with the attitudes and behaviours of this consumer group?

If you attend the in-person event - you will also hear from corporate leaders who are successfully innovating solutions that resonate with this consumer group. Join intimate Ideation workshops, where you'll have an opportunity to articulate your challenges and successes as we move forward to engage this seemingly elusive and vital stakeholder.

Both the in-person event and webinar are free for CBSR members.
